Canberrans invited to Share the DigniTea this Sunday

What are you doing this coming Sunday? Does a glass of champagne, a high tea, and a room full of big-hearted women sound good? Then read on.
Share the Dignity’s annual DigniTea high tea event is returning to Canberra to raise awareness and much needed funds for those experiencing period poverty in Australia.
Hosted by our own Associate Editor Emma Macdonald, the event signifies a welcome return of the DigniTea fundraiser, after COVID-19 brought the 2020 and 2021 events to a halt. The Canberra high tea is one of 10 DigniTea events hosted across Australia throughout May in celebration and recognition of World Menstrual Hygiene Day (28 May).
The event series is set to raise over $450,000 and bring together more than 5,000 people to help women and girls in need. Share the Dignity Founder and Managing Director, Rochelle Courtenay, said she is expecting this year’s DigniTea high tea events to be bigger and better than ever before.

“I’m so excited to see our much-loved DigniTea event series return in full force after a challenging couple of years,” says Rochelle. “Like many charities, our monetary donations took a hit in 2020 and 2021 with the cancellation of most of our DigniTea events, which slowed our progress in areas like our Dignity Vending Machines.”
“But ending period poverty is about more than just funding, collecting, and distributing products. It’s also about removing the shame and stigma associated with menstruation and being relentless in lobbying for policy changes to ensure dignified and reliable access for all.”
“We’ve missed being able to bring people together to talk about periods at events like DigniTea. Conversations can be so powerful and are essential in breaking the taboo around menstruation and inciting action.”
Joining host Emma Macdonald will be an inspiring panel of passionate Share the Dignity supporters including ACT Young Australian of the year in 2021 Tara McClelland, Papunya Connors from EveryMan and Melanie Greenhalgh.
Emma said “I have always been struck by the clever way in which Share the Dignity encourages women to lift other women up in such a vital and practical manner.”
Tickets are selling fast and include can be purchased for $99 per person or $950 for a table of ten.
