Five things to see in Coffs Harbour that aren’t the Big Banana

Posted on

We’ve found your next weekend getaway – and it’s in an unexpected location.

Halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, Coffs Harbour has long been a pit stop for travellers. And while it’s most well known for the giant man-made banana, trust us there’s so much more to see in this gem of a coastal town.

And with the recent announcement of a new direct route between Canberra and Coffs Harbour, operated by Link Airways, now is the perfect time to book a luxurious weekend away so you can explore it for yourself.

Only running from Thursday 23 January until Sunday 27 April, we’ve done the hard work for you and pulled together a list of the five of the best places to see, do and eat if you choose to take the hour and forty-minute flight north.

Solitary Islands Coastal Walk

It’s not a trip to the coast without a few hours spent exploring the idyllic natural surrounds. But for those looking for something to do beyond sitting on the beach (not that there’s anything wrong with that), we’d argue this is one of the most beautiful walks that you can do.

Linking a string of golden beaches, rocky headlands and lush rainforest along the Coffs Coast, the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk traverses 60km and can take up to four days in total to complete the full track. But with plenty of opportunities to stop for birdwatching, swimming, and picnicking in the shorter sections, there’s endless natural wonders to discover.

Figtree Day Spa

For those looking for the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate after a busy working week, Figtree Day Spa is a hidden oasis just a short drive from the heart of the town.

Incorporating both a bathhouse and yoga studio (along with luxe spa treatments including facials, massages and body scrubs), the aim is to help you hit the ‘reset’ button on both your body and mind. There’s even a ‘Retreat for Two’ package so you can indulge with a friend or partner in a relaxing bonding experience.

Coffs Skydivers

Seeking a thrill you won’t forget? While the Coffs Coast is tranquil, for those who love an adrenaline rush we have the perfect suggestion on how to see it: a tandem beach skydive.

Taking you up to 15,000ft, with the Coffs Skydivers you’ll experience a maximum of 70 seconds of free fall over stunning beaches – and yes, it’s one of the highest skydives in Australia.

Operating for over 20 years, there’s no denying that this is the most memorable way to see Coffs Harbour.

Beach Rides with HWH Stables

Soothing and therapeutic with a touch of adventure, this is an activity you can do by yourself, a friend or a partner – perfect for a weekend away.

Suitable for all levels of experience and ranging from one hour to three hours, you’ll have the opportunity to ride into the surf and swim in the lagoon, canter along a beach and more. And with early sunrise and sunset rides also available upon request, this is an activity worth crossing off the bucket list.

Latitude 30 and Aanuka Beach House

After a day exploring everything that Coffs Harbour has to offer, eating seafood while overlooking the Ocean is the only way to end it.

Located at the Coffs Harbour International Marina, Latitude 30 is a modern Australian restaurant serving tapas, seafood and cocktails alongside stunning views. Highlighting the incredible fresh produce of the area (with the menu including items like a seafood mezze plate and Lobster Mornay), the relaxed restaurant vibe and sprawling marina views will ensure an unforgettable dining experience.

For those looking for something a little more casual, Aanuka Beach House is all about pairing good times with tan lines (and a cracking good cocktail). Serving local produce on pool-side plates, they’re open from sunrise to sunset, with pizzas, antipasti boards and seafood platters on offer. Who doesn’t love the combination of blue skies and Mai Tais?
