Coming home to The Ridge Watson

Posted on

Are you one of the many Canberrans seeking a new home in a suburb you know and love?

It’s these developments in Canberra’s inner suburbia that many upsizers, downsizers and first home buyers are gravitating toward, with one eye on their established communities and services, and the other on their proximity to nature. This is exactly what attracted first home buyers and public servants Beau and Stephanie to The Ridge Watson.

“At first the location and price [were] what sparked our interest,” says Beau. “We were looking for something central, but affordable, and at first glance The Ridge was ticking those boxes.”

Nestled in the shadow of Mount Majura, The Ridge is a stone’s throw from popular walking and biking trails, Watson Shops with its cafés, restaurants and services, and Exhibition Park’s weekly Farmers Markets. Offering only three-and four-bedroom townhouses, The Ridge puts its focus squarely on relaxed living in a tranquil location.

“It’s a wonderful spot in Canberra and it offers a lot without feeling like you’re living in a dense urban environment,” says Aaron Ackland, JWLand’s Development Manager for The Ridge. “It’s also only a 10-minute walk to the light rail.”

For Beau and Stephanie, the overall floor plans and large living areas seemed “really well thought out” and, as the couple are pet owners, they loved “how private and large the courtyard was and that it was not only accessible from the living area but from the garage as well.”

“We also liked the fact that it had a double garage, walk-in pantry and downstairs powder room,” adds Steph. “The interior colour scheme and exterior aesthetics of the house also stood out to us.”

Overall, the couple found The Ridge’s inclusions to be a step above what was being offered elsewhere, with Smeg kitchen appliances, double glazing and environmentally friendly air-conditioning systems standard across the development.

Outside, residents will enjoy spacious courtyards and beyond that, four communal spaces include grassed zones and a barbeque area.

“We were really impressed with what the Ridge had to offer,” says Stephanie. “A lot of units these days are quite small and very accessible to the public. We really liked how private it felt and the floorplan didn’t seem like a unit, it felt like a small house.”

“It’s not often you see a three-bedroom unit that has a double garage, three bathrooms, walk-in pantry and a generous courtyard,” says Beau.

“The Ridge provided the best overall value for money when considering location, size, what we desired, longevity and price.”

This generosity is exactly what Aaron and his team at JWLand were aiming for when designing The Ridge, with its nature-adjacent location “speaking to how it was designed”.

“The design and the narrative around how the space works was to nurture that feel of nature, with the colour scheme and palette complementing its surroundings,” explains Aaron.

“It has great storage features, open plan living, it’s a comfortable size and has bedrooms that don’t feel cramped.”

With townhouses starting from $550,000, construction of The Ridge is 75% complete, with residents expected to move in by the end of the year. And, to sweeten the deal, purchase before end of July for your chance to be eligible for $5,000 home inclusions voucher*.
