Christmas isn’t always the most wonderful time of the year for those experiencing tough times, and we want to help.
In the lead up to Christmas, it can be easy to get swept up in a gift-buying frenzy. But it’s important to remember that not everyone can just pop out with their credit card and buy that perfect present for the special someone in their lives.

Our gorgeous HerCanberra Giving Tree from Santa’s Shaped Christmas Trees.
To make Christmas just a little bit brighter for locals in need, we are turning our gorgeous real tree from Santa’s Shaped Christmas Trees into a HerCanberra Giving Tree. We’ve popped some collection baskets under the tree so we can support a bunch of different charities.
We’ve started off the donations, but we’d love you to contribute too—just choose a charity and pop your gift in the box!
Here’s who we’re collecting gifts for:
Roundabout Canberra
Inspired by Melbourne-based group St Kilda Mums and the Dandelion Support Network in Sydney, Roundabout Canberra is a not-for-profit organisation bridging the gap between pre-loved baby items and mothers who are enduring hardship and raising children in difficult circumstances.
Karinya House use Roundabout Canberra to source items—see this link for the full list of what they’ll take: roundaboutcanberra.org/donate-goods. All items donated should be in as-new or excellent used condition.
Kmart Wishing Tree
All goods donated to the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal go to the Salvation Army. They will accept wrapped or unwrapped presents—the goods just need to be new. Just label your gift with an age group and gender of the ideal recipient.
Share The Dignity
Charities tell us that Sanitary Items are the last thing to be donated but the first thing to be taken by women and girls in need. You can donate pads and tampons, deodorant, menstrual cups, cloth pads, menstrual panties, incontinence pads and more to Share The Dignity. All donations must be sealed in the original packaging.
Flossie’s Kitten Rescue
Flossie and her support team at Flossie’s Kitten Rescue work tirelessly to get cats and kittens in need into their forever homes. They are vet checked, socialised, wormed, flea treated, vaccinated, microchipped and de-sexed.
Need gift ideas for these gorgeous little fur babies? Think spot-on parasite treatments for kittens (very much needed), enrichment toys, bedding and blankets, bowls, brushes, treats, leads and more.
HOW TO DONATE
Simply bring your donations to the HerCanberra office—we’re in the bottom of Hotel Realm at 18 National Circuit in Barton (we’re directly opposite the bus stop in front of Little National Hotel).
There’s sure to be someone there between 9 am and 5 pm weekdays right up until Friday 21 December, and we’d love to meet you—we’ll even give you a copy of our free magazine!
Oh, and if you want your own beautiful real tree, you can get one from Santa’s Shaped Christmas Trees—including a special HerCanberra discount. Found out how here.
