PSA: Mother’s Day is almost here, and if you haven’t gotten a gift yet, you might want to read this.
Falling on Sunday 11 May, whether you’re celebrating your mum, grandmother, aunty, the mother of your kids or someone else special in your life, if you’re still searching for that perfect gift how much they mean to you, don’t panic – we’ve got you covered.
Here are five things Mum actually wants this Mother’s Day, from award-winning wines to unique workshops and self-care treats. And the best part? They’re all from Canberra businesses!
A bottle of something special from Plonk
A little bit luxe and a whole lot special, give a toast to Mum this Mother’s Day with a bottle from one of Canberra’s most iconic bottle shops. Founded in 2006 and proudly independent and family owned, Plonk stocks an eye-watering collection of wines – including 200 local drops and 800 Australian and international varieties – as well as 1,200 craft beers and an amazing selection of spirits.
All hand-picked by the staff, don’t worry if you’re already feeling overwhelmed by choice – we asked the team at Plonk what drop Mum will really want.
- If she can’t go past a glass of bubbles, add a bottle of the Mount Majura Late Disgorged Silurian Sparkling to your cart ASAP. Aged 14 years and 11 years on lees with lovely brioche flavours and minerality, it’s perfect as an aperitif for breakfast, lunch or tea!
- Looking for something a little different? The Big River Syrah Gin is award-winning, and the team at Plonk reckons it’s one of the best Shiraz/Syrah gins in Australia. Named after the French term for Shiraz, this Syrah Gin features cool-climate fruit harvested from a local vineyard near Hall. It’ll be hard for her to stop at one!
- Made from Canberra’s oldest vines, a bottle of Eden Road Cullarin Syrah is sure to go down a treat for any mums who are partial to a glass of red.
- One of Canberra’s best Chardonnay’s the Collector Tiger Tiger Chardonnay has notes of white flowers, grapefruit, lemon curd, and brioche, which is sure to impress even the most fussy Chardonnay lover. Our founder Amanda Whitley gives this her personal vote!
- With a dried strawberry and fresh cut pear aroma, the Sapling Yard Four Pinots is a lovely dry and unique rosé that straddles the line between orange and pink wine.
- Looking for something from a little farther afield? They suggest the Sea Salt Yuzushu. Think: Japan’s answer to Limoncello, without the sugar. Made using quality sake and four times the yuzu of regular Yuzushu, it’s low in alcohol, zesty and way too easy to drink. It’s kind of like a Margarita but better!

A Gift Box from Wurrumay Collective
If you want to give the gift of self-care this Mother’s Day, look no further than Wurrumay Collective. The brainchild of proud Gomeroi woman, Natasha Kaiser, all of the items stocked in this independent boutique come from Indigenous-made, owned and run labels.
Stocking everything home, bath and body products, here Natasha will create a beautifully presented gift box filled with products of your choice, sent direct to your loved one. And with Wurrumay Hair Oil, Emulsified Salted Caramel Espresso Coffee Body Scrub and Native Desert Lime Hand Cream among the products on offer, you (and Mum) will be spoilt for choice.
They also have Pay It Forward – Care Packs for MOB if your Mum would rather share the love with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander who deserve something special to brighten their day.
Tea (and more) from Adore Tea
There’s nothing like a good cup of tea – and Adore Tea is one of Australia’s largest multi-award-winning specialty tea boutique companies, found right here in Canberra.
With over 150 varieties of tea organically sourced from some of the best tea gardens across Sri Lanka, China, India and more, all the teas here are hand-blended. But it doesn’t stop there, because they also stock jams and spread (think Apple & Cinnamon Tea Infused Mixed Berry Jam and Almond & Vanilla Tea Infused Butterscotch) and tea infused syrups – perfect for enhancing her morning tea or adding to a cocktail.
Looking for something a little more luxe? Book Mum in for a high tea experience where she will be treated to a variety of delicacies accompanied by a range of teas to try.

A cooking class at Food for Taught
If food is her love language (both cooking it and eating it), a cooking class at Food for Taught is a thoughtful gift Mum is sure to love.
Established in January 2025 by Fiona Lynch-Magor, these Cesarine-style home cooking classes are run from the heart of O’Connor, and will teach them a new cuisine, improve their skills and treat them to a fun day or night out.
With options ranging from Sardinian to French, classes are capped at six people, so she’ll also get a more intimate cooking experience than in a commercial kitchen while receiving practical advice and hands-on help.
Choose from one of the already prepared menus or reach out to Fiona to design a bespoke menu just for Mum!
