Four ideas for a picturesque winter day trip

Posted on

There are few things better than watching falling leaves, vibrant in colour, drifting across the sky…Oop, you nearly lost me to daydreaming!

I’m back—and here are four places to soak in the last of the autumn glory before it gets a bit toooo chilly.

You know what I’m talking about. Let’s just get into it.

Why we love it: It really is so close to Canberra, making it the perfect day-trip spot to escape the city and soak in the colours.

Where to eat: Casanova has you sorted for your lunch-time fix, with a range of goodies to keep the whole crew happy. If you’re looking for something a bit more lowkey, Provisions Deli & Creperie is a great stop-in option.

The vibe: Lowkey and … calm. The general vibe of artsy-and-handmade will complement the early winter wind-down feels perfectly.

The drive: 1hr and 10 via Kings Hwy | For more, click here.

Orange

It’s in the name, really!

Why we love it: Looking a bit further afield, Orange gets a gold-star for autumn colours – the rows of Poplar trees are stunning!

Where to eat: Why not suss out Byng Street Local Store? Open seven days to accommodate for the spontaneity!

The vibe: There’s museums and galleries and stunning, quaint little shops – perfect way to round out a day trip. Or, if you’re really channelling a lowkey escape – why not a picnic in Cook Park? Either way, you’re guaranteed to feel the relaxed vibes here.

The drive: 3 hr and 23 | For more, click here.

Jugiong

Trekking to Jugiong is well worth it this winter – the town and surrounds have got allll you need to soak in the beauty of the cooler months.

Why we love it: She really is the little town that could! Jugiong’s small-ness really lends itself to a lowkey daytrip.

Where to eat: The Sir George is serving up good eats and beautiful scenery to enjoy. Looking for a quick coffee before heading home – why not try the Long Track Pantry?

The vibe: As already mentioned, the smallness of Jugiong makes it a great place to take it all in – but if you’re feeling up to it, there is opportunity to explore! And we suggest you do. Cause, leaves.

The drive: 1hr and 29 | For more, click here.

Cooma

It is the gateway to the snow, yes – but why not head down before the snow starts to fall?

Why we love it: Open air and pace to breathe under the fading autumn colours is everything … it truly is just a spectacular region.

Where to eat: Come on now! The Courtyard Coffee Shop is serving up the goods in both the treats and views department. Or why not Kettle & Seed? Either way, there are options a plenty to fuel hungry road trip tummies.

The vibe: There is always just something so magical about the Snowy Mountain’s region – but with that early winter glow, consider the magic totally elevated.

The drive: 1hr and 23 | For more, click here.

If an last minute autumn-view-hunting day trip just isn’t on the cards for you before the cold really sets in – lucky Canberra has some gorgeous views to offer! Check out this insta-worthy locations wrap-up we’ve pulled together here.
