Know an inspiring Canberran? The 2024 Lifeline Spirit of Canberra Awards are now open

Posted on

We all know (and love) an incredible person who has triumphed over personal adversity.

They work tirelessly to give back to the local community and humbly ask for nothing in return. And as nominations for the Lifeline Spirit of Canberra Awards open for 2024, so does your opportunity to acknowledge, celebrate and honour their inspiring contributions to the Canberra community.

Since 2006, Lifeline Canberra has asked community members to nominate inspirational people in their lives, holding an elegant luncheon to announce the recipients. Held this year on Thursday 24 October at Old Parliament House, the aim of the annual awards is to showcase the many inspirational, strong, and courageous people of the Canberra community.

And year, the awards are bigger than ever.

Now seeking nominations in four categories, in 2024 the Lifeline Spirit of Canberra Awards are recognising both individuals and organisations, encouraging changemakers to put forward themselves, their organisations, their peers, or community members for recognition of their hard work.

Here’s what you can nominate them for:

The Spirit of Resilience Award

Celebrating individuals who have overcome adversity and are bettering the community through their experience.

The Spirit of Hope Award

For either individuals or businesses who have a unique vision for the future of Canberra and are working towards that goal.

The Spirit of Impact Award

Designed for businesses and organisations making a difference.

The People Choice Award

Voted on by the community from the pool of finalists.

According to Lifeline Canberra CEO, Carrie Leeson, the new additions mean more remarkable people can be celebrated.

“Our role at Lifeline is to ensure that we continue to come together as a community, to instill compassion and kindness in every connection,” she says.

“These awards allow us to have this incredibly important conversation in a new and exciting way.”

It’s time to shine a spotlight on the valuable contributions of those who embody the Spirit of Canberra.

Know someone making a difference? The nominee must consent to being nominated, and they must show significant inner strength and self-belief.
