Meet the HerCanberra Team: Sammy Rose, Contributor
Posted on
Have you ever wondered who’s behind the glorious photos, reels, and stories showcasing the best bits of the nation’s capital?
We thought it was time to reintroduce ourselves, so you can get to know the people behind the website bios. In this new series, we’ll introduce the HerCanberra team, their likes and dislikes, and what makes them tick. With our hard-hitting questions, you’ll get a sneak peek into their personal lives and some of their deepest darkest secrets. These profiles won’t disappoint.
First up is our newest contributor and office ray of sunshine, Sammy Rose. When she’s not filming reels or holding a prop during a photoshoot, you’ll find her sipping a cup of tea while scheduling her next Insta post.

Favourite colour?
Pink. I love a baby pink, think most of Britney Spear’s outfits in the 90’s.
Favourite flower?
Is it too predictable if I say roses? They’re a classic for a reason.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs. Obviously.

Tea or coffee?
Tea. I can’t function without having my morning cuppa. I love the smell of coffee, but I don’t like the taste. Lord knows my overthinking brain doesn’t need the caffeine hit.
Morning or night?
Morning. My family own a café in Goulburn, and from a young age I woke up early to help Mum and Dad set up shop. I blame them for my inability to sleep past 6 am. Although, enjoying a pretty sunrise makes up for it, and it’s the best time of day to go for a run.
North side or south side?
North side. Mainly because I live there, and it’s closer to my home town of Goulburn and my Mum’s cooking. G-town is basically an outer suburb.
Favourite season in Canberra?
Autumn. So pretty!
What’s the last book you read?
It’s very predictable, but the last book I read was Court of Wings and Ruin in the ACOTAR series by Sarah J Maas. I did find it harder to get into than the first two books in the series, and I think I’ll give adult fantasy novels a break for a couple of weeks. I’ve been wanting to sink my teeth into Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth, it’s on top of the ‘unread’ pile sitting on my bedside table and gathering dust.
What’s your go-to comfort movie and/or TV show?
Blair Waldorf is my spirit animal. Gossip Girl is my go-to show for when my brain needs a bit of sugar and a distraction from the everyday. Cute actors, gorgeous outfits and excellent shopping montages in designer stores. I’m hopelessly devoted.

If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
A big cheeseburger with pickles, hot chips and a chocolate thickshake. Does that make me basic?
Go to Canberra restaurant recommendation?
Raku. The food and service are always excellent, and I love having ‘confidential’ gossip in the private booths. Perfect for girls night.
What’s your irrational fear?
Birds. Particularly magpies. Those beady eyes never look like they’re up to any good. Plus they steal shiny things.
If you could invite anyone to dinner, dead or alive, who would you invite?
My Nan, Dulcie Rose. She passed away when I was in high school. Dulcie raised five boys while our grandfather was at sea in the navy. She helped inspire my love of reading by giving me the most beautiful books, and always had a classy outfit. I’d tell her about my life now, and show her my expansive book collection.
What’s the most random thing you’ve done for work?
As part of my role as newsreader for Wilko & Courts on Hit 104.7, we handed out women’s intimacy products to single listeners at their workplaces on Valentine’s Day. A few years ago, Wilko & Courts also had me hand out cheeseburgers to people driving home on Horsepark Drive during peak hour.

What’s your Canberra hidden gem?
BanMe in Braddon. Hidden behind the Waves Car Wash, they make the most delicious Ban Me, and the avocado and oconut smoothie never disappoints.
