Two young Canberra dancers are set to join Justin Bieber onstage at his Sydney Purpose concert on Wednesday.
Jett Atkins (11) and Jessie Hayes (10)—both students at PLAY – The Dance Agency—have beaten thousands of young hopefuls to the coveted spots after entering an online audition for young dancers which required them to learn a piece of choreography by Nick Demoura, Bieber’s official tour director and choreographer.
According to PLAY’s owner, Cassie Grening, four children are selected from each city on the tour for the opportunity to dance with Justin Bieber to “Children” in front of a sold out crowd.
“There were thousands of entries from kids all over Australia online—Jett and Jessie both made it, along with Charlie Powlowski and Kaan Guldur, both from Sydney.”
Jett and Jessie are best friends and both members of the PLAY JNR crew at PLAY. Last year along with their crew PLAY JNR they took out the Silver Medal in the World Supremacy Battlegrounds Hip Hop Championships.
“They are both energetic dancers who pick up choreography and style extremely fast,” says Cassie.
And that’s a good thing—their audition videos certainly weren’t months in the making, according to Jessie.
“Cassie sent our mums a text one night saying ‘learn this choreography I am filming you tomorrow’ so we did! Her husband Brian filmed us and edited it all the next day and posted it on the PLAY YouTube channel!”
“Tt was a cool dance and Cassie made sure our interview was good and we got all the moves right, I prayed every night I would make it and it came true!,” says Jett.
Jessie and Jett will be heading to Sydney on Tuesday for some media commitments before they are required at the show all day for rehearsals and technical run throughs with Justin Bieber’s Purpose Tour Management.
But there’s no rest for these junior stars—they’ll be back in the Mitchell studio on Thursday to rehearse for their next competition in Canberra on 26 March.
