“We wake up excited and happy every morning. We love what we do because we see that we directly help people around the world to live healthier, happier lives. We found our ‘bliss’ and we’re following the hell out of it!”
Emma and Carla Papas—The Merrymaker Sisters—are former public servants who quit their corporate jobs to become health and happiness bloggers, writers, paleo recipe developers and passionate health coaches. Their business has been featured in international media, including Women’s Fitness, Mashable and others, and they’ve recently shared the stage with Pete Evans on his Learn to Cook the Paleo Way tour.
The sisters think the world is “seriously crazy amazing. We wake up excited and happy every morning. We love what we do because we see that we directly help people around the world to live healthier, happier lives. It’s extremely fulfilling. We found our ‘bliss’ and we’re following the hell out of it!”
Carla and Emma look for small changes that can result in huge, positive benefits in people’s lives. “One of our dreams is to create a school of happiness. Learning happiness has been instrumental on our journey (and continues to be every day). It’s amazing how changing your thoughts can change the world. We’re also planning to extend the Merrymaker Brand in to an umbrella of health, wellbeing and happiness experts. We want to be able to support others with the same mission so the messages can be sent further.”
Their journey is broken into five significant areas of positive change: Food and water, exercise, career, relationships and spirituality. “We put a major focus on detoxing the negative relationships and welcoming positive, amazing people into our lives. When you surround yourself with people who give good energy rather than take, watch your world transform!”
To their sixteen-year-old selves, they’d advise: “Dream big and never give up. Every obstacle is there for a reason. It’s a blessing in disguise.”
This year’s big dream is The Merrymaker App. It’s in developmental stages and Emma and Carla can’t wait to launch it and send it global—“health and happiness and Merrymaker access right in your pocket!”
Canberra is ‘home’. “Everything is nearby. We also love how beautiful the sunsets are… epic sky art every day!” Favourite places are Isaacs Ridge, Mount Taylor, Mount Ainslie and the lake—all their favourite walking spots. The sisters think our challenge as a city is changing other’s perception of Canberra. “We ain’t boring and full of suits! There is so much culture in Canberra: foodie, coffee, art, small business…”
When not ‘merrymaking’ professionally, Emma and Carla love hiking, doing yoga and meditating, reading, dancing to new and old pop music (Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, The Beatles, One Direction, Magic! and Elvis) and dining at a new Canberra restaurant: Elemental.
They show others how to ‘follow their bliss’ and are certainly leading by example.
