She Matters: the rally calling to end violence against women in Australia this March

Posted on

113 women murdered in Australia in 14 months.

That’s 12 women since the beginning of 2025 and a staggering 101 women in 2024. This is the reality of violence against women in Australia.

When does it stop? How does it stop? And what can we do to make a difference? Once again, the Australian Femicide Watch is calling for people to take to the streets to raise their voices.

The She Matters Stop Killing Women rally will be held nationwide to demand that politicians and change makers act and raise awareness about the ongoing epidemic of violence against women in Australia.

Putting pressure on every political party ahead of the upcoming elections, the Canberra rally will take place on Saturday 15 March at 12 pm, standing in solidarity with survivors, and advocates to change how violence against women is addressed within Australian society.

Providing a platform for survivors to share their stories and for people to demand a future where no one has to suffer, whether as a voice for change, a supporter for those with lived experience, or as someone who believes in the power of community, your participation will help make a difference.

And men are encouraged to come along and be part of a supportive solution to the problem.

“One woman killed is one too many – 113 in 14 months is Australia’s shame, an epidemic and clear and disturbing evidence of violence increasing in our society,” says the founder of Australian Femicide Watch and The RED HEART Campaign, Sherele Moody.

“I predict the number of women lost to violence will climb this year and continue increasing as we see violent and misogynistic men platformed and normalised. We deserve to live life safe from violence, harassment, and abuse – it’s time to change the story.”

Behind these heartbreaking figures lie countless stories of pain, trauma, and shattered lives. If we want those numbers to stop growing, domestic violence, stranger violence, associate violence, femicide, murder, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and misogyny need to end.

“We will continue pressuring political candidates and parties to take a stand against femicide, domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment, and all forms of gender-based violence,” says Sherele.

“The goal is to unite all Australians in the fight to end misogyny and ensure safety for every woman, everywhere.”

Organised and funded by Australian Femicide Watch and The RED HEART Campaign, on the day you’re encouraged to bring protest placards, signs, electronic candles and flowers to honour those who have lost their lives.
