Show your Pride: Local LGBTIQA+ organisations and charities to support
Posted on
It’s Pride Month, which means it’s the perfect time to reflect on how we can continue to drive change for our local LGBTIQA+ community.
Dedicated to the celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride, Pride Month commemorates years of struggle for civil rights and the ongoing pursuit of equal justice under the law. And if you want to show your pride (or be a good ally) we have a great place to start: donating time or money to local LGBTIQA+ charities.
Running until 30 June, to honour those that have built the way (and those that help continue to create a bright future), here are some organisations you can give back to during Pride Month – and beyond.
A Gender Agenda (AGA)
Supporting the goals, and needs of the intersex, transgender and gender-diverse communities of Canberra through education, advocacy, and peer support, AGA actively engages in increasing public awareness and understanding of intersex, trans and gender diversity issues.
Hosting community events as well as providing training and education workshops, you can donate here.
Canberra Gay & Lesbian Qwire
Bringing together the LGBTIQA+ community and allies, the aim of the Qwire choir is to challenge stereotypes and build a bridge between Canberra’s queer and non-queer communities.
Believing that everyone can (and should) sing, they take pride in their diversity—and invite anyone along who is passionate about learning and performing in a supportive environment.

SpringOUT
The home of the Canberra SpringOUT Pride Festival, SpringOUT began in 1999 with only two volunteers. Now, it’s bigger and better—providing a vehicle for LGBTQIA+ individuals and groups to express, affirm and celebrate their pride, highlighting the contribution they make to the cultural fabric of the Canberra region.
Promoting a broader message of positivity, diversity, and acceptance, they also provide educational, cultural, and creative spaces that encourage free expression.
