Ever tried to set up for a big day of study at home, only to be distracted by anything but what’s on your giant to do list?
If you’re sick of the interior décor of the library and looking for something to spice up your study life, check out the cafés below for some inspo.
Reminder: Be friendly to staff and order a coffee (and preferably food) before you snatch up a table for hours on end.

Sitting inside the foyer of one of Canberra’s most unique buildings, Makeshift is a space for students and creatives alike. Serving tea, Redbrick Espresso coffee, beer or wine (depending on your deadline), Makeshift boasts a quirky space designed specifically for productivity.
Offering a variety of pastries, as well as simple breakfast and lunch options, inbuilt power points and free Wi-Fi, Makeshift is the perfect place to pull up an armchair, lounge, or desk and hit the books.

One of Canberra’s oldest and most popular café’s, Tilley’s in Lyneham is the perfect spot to get your study on. With both indoor and outdoor seating (for the warmer Canberra months), Tilley’s café possesses a nostalgic atmosphere found nowhere else.
Tilley’s serves Segafredo Organic coffee and has an all-day menu. While the cafe doesn’t offer free Wi-Fi, if you’re happy to hotspot and like good coffee and friendly staff, it’s definitely worth the visit.
LONSDALE STREET ROASTERS 7 (BRADDON)

Located on the eponymous Lonsdale Street in Braddon, Lonsdale Street Roasters’ unique, split level fit out makes it the best place to study in the area. The café boasts upstairs seating overlooking the hustle and bustle of Braddon, as well as prime access to CBR Free Wi-Fi.
Serving their very own coffee blends, the café has both a breakfast and lunch menu, plus an array of sweets and pastries to choose from. Fair warning though, it can get pretty crazy at peak time, so probably best to head there past 10 am.
REDBRICK ESPRESSO (CURTIN)

Tucked away in the Curtin shops, Redbrick Espresso offers cosy vibes for Canberra’s south-siders. With tables in both inside and outside areas, and serving their own roasted coffee blends, it makes for a great space to get some work done.
Word to the wise – the suburban café has a pretty sturdy local clientele on the weekends, so hitting up Redbrick during the week or later in the day on weekends is your best bet.
TEDDY PICKER’S (CAMPBELL)

Teddy Picker’s funky vibes and loft-style fit out attracts students from both sides of the lake. Serving great coffee, an all-day menu and boasting floor to ceiling windows at the front of the café (making people watching the easiest form of procrastination), Teddy Picker’s makes for the perfect study location in a quiet area of town.
The upstairs ‘lounge room’ sports bookshelves, couches and background music from a record player. You also have tip-top access to the buildings free Wi-Fi up there, making it a cosy little study hub.
