If you’re getting married and mulling over which season to hold your big day, winter…
A wedding reception, then the hen’s party, then the wedding vows?
Kristen Henry’s wedding is officially very back to front, but Kristen and her partner Iain do things differently.
The couple’s thinking behind having a Canberra wedding reception before their official vows in New Zealand in the first weekend of May was simple; privacy. Kristen and Iain wanted the opportunity to celebrate with 130 of their friends in Canberra at QT, dance the night away, cut the cake and hear from the bridal party. Then fly out to New Zealand for an intimate Wedding with 44 of their nearest and dearest.
Last Saturday saw part one of this epic multi-country wedding, the Canberra reception at Level 15 at QT Canberra, with Kristen wearing a custom-made white tuxedo jumpsuit made by Manuka’s Gloria Grady.
However, that’s not all that was planned. Kristen had said no to a hen’s party, however, her bridesmaids, consisting of sister Nikke and Kristen’s three best friends from high school, had a plan in place.
The quartet knew family and friends had travelled from all over Australia and even London to party with the pair so they set about throwing Kristen a (surprise) hen’s party she would never forget. They surprised her with a garden picnic in Lennox Gardens the day after the Canberra reception – with all the trimmings.
A drinks van, catering and entertainment had been all arranged, with suppliers including Canberra’s own Nibble & Nourish, Fox Meets Bear Events, Nellies Café and Bar and Nick Rigby Music.
The countdown is now on for Kristen and Iain’s May wedding in Queenstown, New Zealand and details are being kept top secret – even guests don’t know the exact date the pair will say “I do”.
To keep the secret, well, secret, the celebrations will stretch over three days, with the wedding taking place on one of those days. However, we do know that Kristen has been working closely with Australian designer Steven Kahlil for her custom wedding gown. Stay tuned for the full scoop in the coming weeks…
