Your big day in full colour, forever

Posted on

Our connections with each other, no matter how small, are the most meaningful moments in life.

Regardless of your theme, size or location, chances are you have invested a lot of energy, blood, sweat and yes, maybe some tears, into planning your wedding.

But then the big day will finally arrive and it will be the best day, but a busy day and as hard as you might try, parts of it will go by in a bit a blur. When the dust and rose petals settle and you’re stretched out on a lounge by the pool in Capri on your honeymoon, you’re probably going to be thinking, ‘wait…what even happened?’. We asked photographer and videographer duo Anthea and Lyndon for their advice on making sure you remember the big day in full colour.

“There are four things that last beyond the day of your wedding,” they explain. “Your rings (a physical reminder), your marriage (the face you wake up to see), your photos and your video. Your photographs and video are your emotional connection to the events that happened on the day, and a record of the people who you shared them with.”

But it’s not just about the happy snaps.

“Everyone understands the importance of having a wedding photographer, but the emotive power of video is so underestimated,” they explain. “Without audio and music, photographs can only tell half the story. Wedding films cover all the things that can’t be captured in a photo – the personal vows that you say to each other, or a father’s nervous voice as he delivers a heartfelt speech.”

The duo met in 2010 when Anthea was studying photography at CIT, and Lyndon was working in commercial TV and video. “I actually used the excuse of wanting to do work experience with him to get his phone number!” laughs Anthea.

In 2013 they combined their skills to become a super power couple to start filming and photographing weddings and the pair know from firsthand experience how quickly the memories of a wedding can fade.

“I’ve already forgotten most of what my dad said in his speech at our wedding four months ago,” says Lyndon. “Luckily it was all filmed so I can watch it in 50 years time (hopefully with our own grandkids) when he’s no longer here with us. Then our grandchildren will know who their great grandparents were.”

If being in front of the camera is something that makes you feel nervous, never fear. Anthea and Lyndon say that capturing your big day doesn’t have to be intrusive and in fact, when they film and photograph a celebration, they look for the small, authentic moments.

“We don’t want you to pose or feel you need to fake a smile. You want your wedding photographed and filmed truthfully – the hugs, the tears and your best friend’s crazy dancing.”

“Weddings have this perfect mix of emotion, relationships, people and events to document. The stories we photograph and film are real, honest and raw.”
