Real weddings: Nadeshka and Mark

Posted on

Nadeshka and Mark’s Sri Lankan/Italian wedding at the Hyatt Hotel embraced the venue’s old world glamour with a festive flair. The lovely bride takes us through the big day…

 Getting ready

The groomsmen stayed at the Hyatt Hotel the night before the wedding so the girls stayed at my parent’s house in Nicholls, Canberra.

I wanted to get ready in the house that I’d grown up in with my mum, dad and sister.

The dress

My dress was from Jack Sullivan and I bought it at a bridal boutique in Melbourne. I wanted the dress to be figure hugging but also have that ballgown feel so I had to go with a trumpet style dress!

I originally tried the dress on without sleeves but luckily my sister who was with me suggested we trial the sleeves on and that’s when I knew it was the one!

The first look

Mark and I decided to do a ‘first look’ as we wanted to enjoy a few hours taking photos and enjoying the hummer we had booked prior to the ceremony and reception commencing.

The stairwell inside the Hyatt hotel set the most beautiful setting for this and I think almost everyone had tears in their eyes!

The ceremony

We chose the Hyatt hotel in Canberra as it has that old school glamour and charm that we knew would suit the style of wedding we were after.

When we entered the ballroom for the ceremony and reception (yes it was combined), seeing the flowers and candles in the room was magical.

Many guests commented on how they enjoyed the Sri Lankan traditional components of the ceremony as we combined this into the civil ceremony. They also commented that the time we spent on the ceremony was just right (about 25 minutes to be exact!). We definitely didn’t want our guests getting bored!

The reception

We knew that budgeting a little more for real flower centrepieces and lighting real candles would give the room a beautiful and welcoming ambience for the ceremony.

As my husband and I also dance in Melbourne, we teamed up with our dance crews to put on a showcase for our guests following the first dance. The guests loved this!
