Footy, live music and a whole lot of heart: Canberra’s Community Cup is back!

What do footy, musicians, politicians, and friendly competitiveness all have in common? They’re all the main ingredients for the annual Reclink Community Cup, bringing together grassroots AFL, live music and plenty of friendly rivalry to raise funds for the most vulnerable in our community.

On Sunday 13 September, Boomanulla Enclosed Oval in Narrabundah will host one of Canberra’s most community-minded footy matches. The Noise, a team made up of local media personalities, will take on The Limestones, a team of local musicians, with a few local politicians getting involved. 

After two months of training, both teams are ready to hit the field – and if previous Community Cup events are anything to go by, there will be plenty of laughs, competitive spirit and questionable sporting decisions along the way. 

The Community Cup raises vital funds for Reclink Australia, an organisation that uses sport and recreation to support some of the ACT’s most vulnerable people.

Reclink has been working in the ACT for more than 15 years, supporting people experiencing disadvantage, isolation and complex challenges. Funds raised through the Community Cup help sustain that work, including support for people living in social housing.

This year’s event promises to keep the whole family entertained. Alongside the charity football match, there will be live music and entertainment, a kids’ zone, coffee van and licensed bar, and a true blue Aussie barbeque. 

Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for those aged 12 and over, with kids under 12 free. 

Whether you’re there for the footy, the music, the people-watching or simply to support an organisation doing important work in our community, it’s a pretty easy way to spend a Sunday. Grab the family, round up your mates and head to Narrabundah for a day of music, footy, community and change.
