60 minutes to beautiful brows

Posted on

When it comes to 2015 brows, ‘bigger is better’, but back in the early ’90s it was a very different story. And so it came to pass that I plucked and tweezed my previously plentiful eyebrows away into thinner than thin lines. At the time, I was the height of fashion; unfortunately, when bushiness came back into fashion, my brows weren’t willing to cooperate.

Needless to say, I have tried pretty much every eyebrow pencil on the market, and had kinda resigned myself to always having sparse, sad little half-bald caterpillars.

And then.

My makeup guru, Ali Price, said to me, ‘I’ve just done my training in eyebrow extensions, you should come and try them.’

Now, I am ridiculously open minded when it comes to beauty procedures. I will pretty much try anything. And I’ve had eyelash extensions a number of times. But EYEBROW extensions? I was not convinced.

But as Ali wrote in her email to me when I asked if she could describe the ‘step by step’ process:

Crappy Eyebrows ——–> Ali ———> Super Eyebrows

I laughed my arse off, but yep, that’s pretty much the way it goes. Just check this out (just please don’t look at my crappy eyeliner technique…or the dark circles).

So, how does it work? It’s a product called Sleek Brows 3D Brow Building and basically it allows you to have a fuller, more defined brow that you can’t get with your usual eyebrow grooming regimen.

“It’s really a bridge between a regular brow shape and more permanent solutions such as tattooing,” says Ali. “It gives you a brow that looks real, feels real but without the invasive procedure of a tattoo.”

“It’s suitable for those who would like thicker eyebrows, as well as those who suffer from partial or complete eyebrow loss through over tweezing or medical conditions.”

The process involves a few steps, and Ali tells me that it’s a solution that’s customised according to the condition of your existing brows and also the desired effect.

“The first step involves a discussion of your lifestyle, your brow concerns and importantly, how you’d like your eyebrows to look,” she says.

“Next, your brows are colour corrected. This may involve one to two tint combinations. Your brows are then assessed for their optimal shape and excess hair removed.”

In my case, Ali opted for a more ‘ash’ tone than my natural colour and gave my straggly brows some much needed structure.

After the natural brows have been whipped into shape, Ali moves on to the ‘reconstruction’ phase.

“The Sleek Brow process starts by applying specialised hairs to existing hairs for those who have good brows but need more fullness, or if you are lacking brow hair in an area, a specialised sculpting paint is applied directly to skin and then the brow extensions are attached.”

The result is a great set of brows that do not need brow stencils, powder, gels or pencils. They just sit there and look beautiful.

How long do they last? Not as long as eyelash extensions, which typically need infills after about three weeks. Typically, they last anywhere from seven to 14 days – sometimes longer – depending on your skin type, activity and correct care. It’s been nearly three weeks since I had mine done and I’m about to go in again…because now I know how good they can look, I can’t go back.
