Bath to the Future with clever design pieces

Posted on

Have you ever thought about the fact that we spend so much of our time in the smallest room of our house?

Whether it’s a quick pre-work shower, an exhaustive beauty routine or quiet candlelit bath, it’s often the place we start or end our day—and the way we feel about our bathroom can make a huge impact on our mood, every single day.

From a small update to a total makeover, upgrading your bathroom can be an easy way to lift both your home’s aesthetic and your mood. And while you don’t need to spend a fortune to freshen up your bathroom (replacing a vanity, toilet suite or tap ware can do wonders), investing in design pieces is the answer for those seeking a focal point with wow factor.

“For us, the design pieces are pushing the limits of water technology,” says Jason Miller, General Manager of Retail at Southern Innovations Fyshwick.

“[Designers] are always looking to make things better—not plucking something off the shelf. They’re designed and engineered to be perfect,” he explains.

And those designers he’s talking about may be the same names who feature in your living or dining room.

“Some of the brands we sell engage designers like Phillippe Starck, Antonio Citterio and Jean-Marie Massaud,” Jason explains. “We’ve had some of these design pieces for over 20 years and they still have a place in the market.”

Jason explains that it’s not just the history behind each piece that makes them iconic, it’s the fact that they’re “designed to be millimetre perfect and to stand the test of time.”

“AXOR has a motto—form follows function’,” he explains. “[The pieces] are engineered, the finishes are superior. We believe that these pieces are made to last and most of them are German engineered.”

Jason’s advice to those looking to incorporate design pieces into their bathroom renovation is to hero a few key pieces, saying that his personal favourite is all about technology.

“The hansgrohe ShowerSelect is very popular at the moment. It’s a thermostatic mixing valve that allows you to have water at the exact temperature you set. If you have an overhead and hand shower you can even have them operating at the same time, which is very unique.”

Ready to choose your own favourite pieces? Here are five to consider.

HIDDEN TALENT – Eccentric By Rogerseller

Simple but with hidden talent, Eccentric By Rogerseller embraces quirky genius by progressively revealing a backplate featuring cold and hot indicators, thanks to its axis uniquely positioned off-centre.

“Using German cartridge technology, Eccentric supports energy saving by opening in a low pressure, cold position which increases in pressure with the turn of the dial,” explains Jason. “Warm water is introduced past the middle mark, increasing as the dial moves to its furthest open position.”

Eccentric even received the prestigious 2017 Red Dot Award for Product Design.

Axor One_Thermostat_Chrome

One for environmentally conscious design lovers who want to reduce their water usage without sacrificing comfort, the AXOR One‘s Eco Mode reduces water consumption by up to 50 per cent.

Temperature is set by turning a central dial (no more fiddling with two taps) and the flow is increased or decreased by tapping the paddles.

“AXOR One allows a completely fresh interpretation of water control: by consolidating many individual controls into one simple element, it streamlines both the look and functionality of the bathroom,” explain designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.

GET TECHY – hansgrohe ShowerSelect

Jason’s personal favourite, the hansgrohe ShowerSelect allows you to operate your shower with the touch of a button.

Tapping the select buttons will feel like second nature in no time and its clear and minimalist design means that it can be matched with other products while maintaining your overall bathroom aesthetic.

I personally can’t go past the sleek AXOR Starck V—testament to how chic a bathroom can be these days.

Designed by AXOR in collaboration with the creator of the perennially cool Ghost Chair, Phillippe Starck, this is one fixture that’s sure to be a favourite for all visitors.
