Clean hair, clear mind: the local eco-friendly brand revolutionising self-care

Posted on

In a world of endless plastic bottles and chemical-laden products, one local haircare brand is proving that beautiful hair doesn’t have to cost the earth – or your mental wellbeing.

Leading the charge in the beauty industry with a planet-friendly, life-changing haircare solution, Think On Top is a new family-run business helping Canberrans look good while doing good.

But it’s not all about having amazing hair.

Combining environmental sustainability with mental health advocacy, the Think On Top solid shampoo and conditioner bars eliminate plastic packaging, all while donating a portion of proceeds to ReachOut in support of youth mental health.

Co-founded by Canberra local Courtney Csordas and her mother – a veteran hairdresser with over 30 years of experience – Think On Top was born out of frustration with the haircare industry, and a desire to create a product that shows that luxury and sustainability don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

“I loved the idea of shampoo and conditioner bars, but the ones I saw in stores never resonated with me as a consumer. They often looked basic, felt uninspired, and didn’t give off the luxurious, elevated feeling I wanted in my self-care routine,” explains Courtney.

“Sustainability has always been something I care about, but it really struck me when I found out that 100 million shampoo and conditioner bottles are tossed out every year in Australia – and most of them aren’t even recycled.”

“I couldn’t shake the idea of creating a high-performance, salon-quality product that was also zero waste. If I could pull that off, why wouldn’t I? So often, sustainable beauty products are associated with being ‘basic’ or underwhelming in quality.”

Featuring sustainably sourced ingredients (many of which are plant-based and biodegradable), three years on, Think On Top is finally ready to hit shelves.

And as Courtney gets ready to launch, she says the shampoo and conditioner bars are designed to make a positive impact on both the planet and the consumer, bringing a level of thoughtfulness and innovation to the beauty industry.

“For the environment, we focus on eliminating plastic waste – one of our bars replaces up to four plastic bottles. We’ve also made strides in reducing our carbon footprint by making our products lighter and more compact, which means fewer emissions during transportation. Additionally, our concentrated formula uses less water and avoids unnecessary fillers, which helps conserve this valuable resource,” explains Courtney.

“For our customers, the benefits are just as significant. Our bars deliver salon-quality results without the use of harsh chemicals. Thanks to nutrient-rich plant oils and butters, they lock in moisture and add a natural shine to the hair.”

An additional bonus?

“They also last longer than liquid shampoo and conditioner, meaning customers can save money without compromising on performance.”

Designed to not only deliver healthier hair, Think On Top is also washing away mental health stigma, one lather at a time.

“I’ve always believed that beauty isn’t just about how you look, but how you feel. Mental health has always been close to my heart. I’ve seen so many friends and family struggle, and it’s made me realise how important it is to make sure that support is available to everyone,” explains Courtney.

“That’s why I’m so proud to donate 50 per cent of profits to ReachOut, a service that gives young people free and accessible support when they need it the most. I’ve seen firsthand how life-changing that kind of help can be.”

Wanting to remind people that the way you take care of yourself matters, Courtney wants to help contribute to a future where sustainability “isn’t just a passing trend – it’s simply the way things are done.”

“It’s no longer just about what works; it’s about making intentional choices,” says Courtney.

“Sustainability doesn’t mean sacrificing luxury; it’s about choosing a better kind of luxury. Now, every time I reach for a product, I don’t just wonder, ‘Does it work?’, I ask ‘Does it align with my values?’”.

While Think On Top is already transforming eco-anxiety into action, Courtney’s ultimate dream is for the products to redefine beauty as something that nourishes, uplifts, and makes a real difference without ever compromising on quality or experience.

“At Think On Top, we want to be part of this transformation. We believe that beauty doesn’t have to sacrifice excitement, luxury, or performance for sustainability.”

“We’re here to break the mould, challenge industry norms, and create something truly special; something that sets a new standard for what sustainable beauty can be. It’s not just about doing better for the planet; it’s about showing that you can do good and still deliver the best.”

Officially launching on Tuesday 11 March, Think On Top products are now available to pre-order. Visit thinkontop.org for more information.
