Could dentists be the best injectors in the business?

These days, there’s more than a little fascination with facial rejuvenation, anti-wrinkle injections, fillers, threads and very special facials.
A few years ago, many people would have not given them a second thought—then, perhaps, they had just a little anti-wrinkle injection and justified that by saying they would never have fillers! Then they had fillers and now… there’s a far greater readiness to try all the facial rejuvenation tools at our fingertips.
These days, there’s no shame or stigma associated with facial rejuvenation. It’s becoming more and more common to be open about the procedures you’ve had done.
Yes, there is bad press about celebrities who’ve gone too far with their procedures; and certainly, one wouldn’t go just anywhere to get it done—it’s important to do your research. For example, did you know that facial rejuvenation can nowadays be within the skills set of a dentist? When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense given a dentist’s knowledge of facial structure and their educational training in anatomy.
One such dentist in Canberra is Dr Deanne Carr from Ogee Facial Rejuvenation. After practising dentistry for many years, Deanne found great joy and real passion in providing facial rejuvenation to help people both look and feel fantastic.
“Dentists have comprehensive knowledge of the structure and development of the face, including an intricate knowledge of the skin, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels and how they affect facial movement,” says Deanne.
“They also understand the processes that cause ageing and deterioration of the face, and methods to reverse these processes.”
Not only is Dr Deanne qualified as a dentist but she has also trained in dento-facial aesthetics with the Australasian Academy of Dento-Facial Aesthetics, completing many courses through the Academy and working as one of their practical trainers since 2020. Deanne’s studies and experience culminated in her being inducted as a Fellow of the International Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics in New York in December 2021.
All the qualifications (which are essential) aside, Deanne is real – a person who gets facial rejuvenation in a way that many others don’t.
“I don’t go beyond what looks natural and what makes you happy,” she says.
“My focus is on providing realistic advice, a natural look, and for my patients to look and feel their best.”
That philosophy is behind the ‘Ogee’ name. Meaning “a double curve, resembling the letter ‘s’, formed by the union of a concave and a convex line, the Ogee Curve of the face is the double soft-S curves that are seen on the youthful face from an oblique angle.
“There is convex fullness in the lateral brow that softly curves in where the upper and lower eyelids meet and then again softly curves outward on the upper cheek to again curve inward just above the mouth,” says Deanne.
“As a face loses volume, it also loses the grace and harmony of the ogee curve of youth. That’s where I come in.”
Deanne’s facial rejuvenation techniques include: facial muscle relaxers, dermal filler, rejuvenation threads, injection lipolysis, hydrafacial and carboxytherapy. New clients start with a comprehensive examination and planning appointment, where treatments are tailored to each individual to achieve the desired, natural looking outcomes.
And for dental patients, there are possible, clear advantages of having an artistic, highly skilled facial specialist harmoniously blending techniques in one appointment. Dentists have the expertise to deliver anaesthesia—a common component of dental treatment—meaning you can experience facial rejuvenation treatments in comfort, without pain.
