Going over to Rowan’s home in Cook was like visiting a museum of interests; both…
No longer an unaffordable luxury, flower designs are having a renaissance.
There is a revolution happening – you may have sensed it, you may have witnessed it, you may have even participated in it.
The revolution I am referring to is a modernisation of all things floral. No longer an unaffordable luxury, flower designs are having a renaissance and are more available than ever thanks to one of my favourite local options, The Floral Society.
Operating online, The Floral Society post beautiful, fresh bunches to your door and now, have opened a pop up Flower Bar in Kingston’s Green Square.
Filled with in-season florals (many sourced locally) the Flower Bar is a new take on floral designing, and your design is totally up to you!
First you select how much you want to spend (a small bunch is $33, a medium is $55, large $77 and extra large $110.)
You then select your presentation, with options including The Floral Society’s signature white wrap and black ribbon (my personal favourite), a chic white box or a vase of your choice.
Now the fun part – the flowers themselves! You can either select the specific flowers you would like in your design, or leave it up to the staff.
The options are listed on a chalkboard, as well as displayed in the front of the shop. There were so many beautiful options! I was drawn to a beautiful spray I haven’t seen before called snowberry, so I opted to go with a neutral blend that included several different types of roses and greenery.
Once you have selected your flowers, you can sit and wait for your bunch or go explore some of the local shops. I would encourage you to sit and watch – the way the staff skillfully organise the flowers blended with the beautiful greenery is mesmerising.
The Flower Bar is a great option for a beautiful treat for yourself or a special gift for someone. It’s fun to play a part in the design process – while I would love to keep my design, my bunch is being gifted to a gorgeous friend of mine who had a car accident this week (she’s ok now, but understandably shaken).
For those who are like me and perhaps a little challenged when it comes to floral arrangements, flower classes are also on the agenda for The Floral Society in the future.
