Have old formal wear collecting dust? This donation drive will give it a second life
Posted on
Formal wear sits in the closet collecting dust, outgrowing us within months, yet we seem to hold onto it.
It’s something we’re all guilty of – because as much as we would love to fit into the formal dress or suit, we said goodbye to high school, the chances of that happening are very slim.
Everyone deserves to feel pretty at their formal without breaking the bank. Buying new formal attire is not an option for many of us for many reasons: this is where Operation Formal Wear comes in.
Recognising this common dilemma, Operation Formal Wear offers a solution. This donation drive by The Lions Club aims to rehouse previously loved formal wear and aid families who may not be able to spear the extra buck.
Following the successful run of the first Operation Formal Wear in 2023 – which saw over 700 individual items of formal attire donated, and an attendance rate so high that they had to extend the event from one to two days – Operation Formal Wear is back. And the Lion’s Club is asking locals to dig even deeper.
Collecting donations of formal attire for females and males as well as any services to help aid families -especially those who have been affected by the cost-of-living crisis – they need your help
Inviting people to join them on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September at the Lion’s Youth Haven to shop for formal wear or contribute to the collection, donations are welcome starting now, and everyone is encouraged to participate. With your support, the Lion’s Club aims to make an even greater impact this year.
This is the perfect opportunity to clear new space in your closet and give an invaluable gift to many families. They are also calling on the class of 2024 and families with students graduating this year to choose a more sustainable and cost-efficient way to shop.
Besides recycling is good for you, look it up.
