With closed international borders, parents have been getting creative with Australian holidays for the past…
An hour and a half north of Canberra lies one heck of a stylish weekend destination—and it could be yours.
The Sir George hotel and pub sits on the main street of quaint Jugiong, a very sweet town that serves as a gateway to the lush Hilltops region and the perfect stop-off on the Canberra-Melbourne and Canberra-Wagga Wagga routes.
While it was established in 1845 (and has held a liquor license the entire time—the longest in Australian history!), The Sir George has undergone a stunning transformation in recent years thanks to its current owners, mother and daughter duo Liz Prater and Kate Hufton.
This stylish pair transformed the historic pub into quite the destination—and now it could be yours.
The Sir George is up for sale via expressions of interest. So if you were to beat out the big hotel names whispered to be sniffing around, what could you look forward to?
Well, for starters there’s a pub, restaurant, whisky room and billiard room all housed in the historic main building, while a chic outdoor seating area overlooks a grassy play space complete with cubby house and farmyard petting area—perfect for families on a Sunday afternoon.
Extending up the hill behind the main building is a handful of chic standalone ‘barns’ that serve as individual rooms for guests, fringed by landscapes gardens and a standalone bakery.

The new owners will also enjoy a separate 1000sqm four-bedroom residential property, located a stone’s throw from The Sir George.
Having stayed at The Sir George for this piece about the Hilltops in 2019, I can attest to the hotel’s attention to detail—right down to the linen sheets and Hunter toiletries—but also it’s welcoming ‘come one, come all’ feel.
This is part of its allure—The Sir George is certainly a destination for discerning travellers, but you’ll also be rubbing shoulders with local families at the pub on a Friday night.
The perfect escape to the country for the lucky new owners? We think so.
Expressions of interest close 27 October 2021 at 12pm AEST unless sold prior. See commercialrealestate.com.au for more information.
