Pamper your pups with couture and treat yourself to sustainable style at this Canberra market

Sustainable fashion is a trend we can all get behind. And next month, our favorite lakeside market is taking it to the next level with its very own fashion festival.
Taking place on Saturday 26 October from 9 am until 2 pm, The Little Burley Fashion Fest will showcase Canberra’s best slow fashion brands, created by the directors of the much-loved Little Burley Market.
Once you hear the lineup of what’s on offer for their inaugural runway, we won’t need to per-suede you to head down to the scenic shores of Lake Burley Griffin.
Fashionistas of all ages can treat themselves to handmade art, jewelry, clothing, arts and crafts for the kids, a crochet workshop, and puppy couture!
We repeat: Couture. For your puppy!
Among the designers taking to the runway, homegrown labels Penyu Concept, Capital Socks, Blue Wren Collective, Lolendo Collections, Resin Doll and Charlie Collie Designs will be showcasing their work. Each of the labels create their pieces through sustainable means, a practice that Little Burley Market Director Alex Webb thinks resonates strongly amongst Canberrans.
“Canberrans are really conscious about sustainability, and we knew moving forward we wanted to create an event that embraced that,” says Alex.
“All the designers are local slow fashion labels, which fits seamlessly with what we already have at the Little Burley Market with our existing stores and displays. It’s nice to create something special just for them.”
Creative Manager Alexa Ashton promises an eclectic mix of both food and clothing stores on the day, along with a bunch of live performances – including the the infectious energy and lively beats of Latin America when dance group Rio Samba takes to the stage.
“Canberra is a multicultural group and that’s what we’ve found at the markets, even just with our food. They’re all locally made street foods from different countries, bringing their culture and their stories.”
“Each of these elements comes through, especially with the eclectic mix of different styles that we have here. You’re getting this wonderful multicultural mix that reflects the people who live here..”
The regular foodie stalls for The Little Burley Market will be there, with fresh pastries, bread, meats, juices, and coffee.
As for the puppy couture, su-paw-star models will hit the dogwalk wearing handmade designs by Charlie & Molly.
Not to mention admission for the whole day is free.
We reckon you’ll dig it.
