Recycled fashion will be strutting itself on a Canberra runway this summer

Posted on
Consider yourself something of a sustainable fashionista? Well, get excited because a new fashion show is coming to Canberra to celebrate recycled fashion.
Challenging a handful of local designers to create bold new outfits sourced only from second-hand materials, Recycled Runway will be showcasing the creative designs for one terrific night on Thursday 30 November. And with Australia still leading the way in the fast fashion industry – continuing to be the second largest consumer of textiles globally – the launch of this collaboration between Canberra’s community recycler, The Green Shed, and Civics’ new arts hub, Blank, couldn’t come at a better time.
With the National Clothing Product Stewardship Scheme Clothing Data Report showing that Australians throw away over 200,000 tonnes of clothing to landfills each year (that’s an eyewatering 56 items of clothing per person), the Recycled Runway is a fun way to bring awareness to the issue while allowing designers to showcase their talent as their designs are modeled on the community runway.

With tickets priced at just $15 per person ($20 at the doors) and all profits split between the creatives involved, it’s the perfect fusion of fashion and feel-good fun. Dig out your best thrifted outfit and get ready to strut your stuff!
