Here’s how to warm both body and spirit in Canberra this winter.
As the mercury drops and frosty mornings become the new normal, you might be tempted to curl up and hibernate – but we’re here to tell you that a winter wellness revolution is taking our city by storm.
From freshly shucked oysters paired with Pilates to Tongan-inspired yoga and a combination of laksa and mindful movement, pull on those warm socks and grab your mat – here’s how you can rejuvenate yourself this winter.
MBK x The Oyster Stand
Pilates and oysters? Perhaps not the most obvious combo, but we’re here for it. Grab your mat and head along to Gorman Arts to participate in a class by Movement by Katie as she takes you through a fluid movement experience inspired by the ocean and the oyster. Following the session, you’ll be treated to a curated three-course oyster experience that profiles the East Coast’s best rock oysters, complete with a matched wine.
Saturday 24 May, 10.30 am | $30 per person | Gorman Arts Centre, Braddon | Book here.
Yoga for Mental Health
Perfect for those with no previous yoga experience, this community-run session will be a rejuvenating 60-minute Traditional Ashtanga and Hatha Yoga class, dedicated to mental health and overall wellbeing.
Integrating traditional Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga practices, including structured Asanas (physical postures), Pranayama (breathwork), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal), Dharana (concentration), and Dhyana (meditation), in the class you’ll engage in an active practice designed to build strength, enhance mental clarity, and cultivate emotional resilience. It’s the perfect winter reset.

Involving the use of multiple props to help you feel nurtured and supported, there will also be the opportunity to opt-in to receive light hands-on relaxation assists. Make sure to dress warmly (including warm socks), bring a journal and pen, and pack an eye pillow/bolster if you have them.
