Summer Loving – hot hair essentials

Posted on

cropSummer is just a breath away, and if you’re like me, as the weather warms you feel the need for change – and more often than not, this craving asserts itself in the wardrobe, beauty and hair department! I asked Emma Luscombe of Antique Salon what hairstyles and colours are the must-haves for summer – and what products we shouldn’t be without. Here’s what she had to say!

This super cool ‘rock chick’ haircut is so versatile. You think – ‘whoa! undercut!’, but you’ll be amazed at how feminine and soft it can look with the length on top.

This is Jessie – our senior stylist – at right. I gave her a crop a couple of months ago and she looks sensational! Jess wears the style many ways: up, down, curled, rolled, braided – the options are endless!

The Pixie Cut

Pammy Anderson and Jennifer Lawrence are the latest to show off their new crops! What’s great about a pixie cut is that it shows confidence, and it’s so easy to style!

Use a little bit of soft crème, like Aveda Light Elements Textuturising Crème ($49.95) whilst your hair is still damp. Just heat it up in your fingers and rub through your hair, leaving the fringe until last. Then, with what’s left on your fingertips, piece out some bits to personalise and give texture.

The Bob

This classic style never gets old – it just gets edgier. Jen Aniston this week stepped out with a layered concave bob – what makes it different to the ‘traditional’ style? Well, its layered…layers upon layers make it swing and sit softly.  Pair it with a soft colour and it’s understated beauty at it’s best.

Beachy Curls

Wanna keep your length? Beachy, sunkissed curls are still a hit…and it’s easy to get the look.

Use your GHD Eclipse Iron in a vertical movement throughout the length to create soft curls. Then, pop your head upside down and spritz in some texture spray , give it a really good shake and flip back up. Use some gloss on your fingertips to piece and separate some of the curls. The result? Big, bouncy and beachy effortless curls!

This summer, it’s all about soft caramels, warm honeys, and golden blonde highlights.

The key is to keep it natural and complementary to your skin tone. Adding slightly deeper blonde tones throughout the hair can add a much needed lift in summer and its not as damaging as ‘bleached blonde’!

We love the GHD Eclipse Iron ($300). No, it’s not cheap…but if you straighten or curl your hair, this product is a must have.

What’s so great about it? Well it looks amazing…classy even…but it’s the technology that makes it special. It has six heat sensors – not just one like your regular iron. This new patented technology gives the smoothest finish in just one stroke, better curls, and it’s easier to manoeuvre and touch as the outsides don’t get hot! I know!

Our hair gets a hard time in summer – lots of sun, chlorine, salt water, etc. One of my favourite products is Aveda After-Sun Hair Masque – an intensive cream masque that restores sun-exposed hair, moisturises, and helps defend against free radicals.

This amazing treatment leaves your hair feeling soft soft and silky. My tip – sleep with it in! Oh, and it smells divine – a light tropical aroma blend with 100% certified organic essences of neroli, ylang ylang and citrus. Yum!
