Simply The Nest: A luxe day out at birdsnest HQ

Gather your girlfriends and book in for beloved Cooma-based fashion retailers newly launched experience–The Nest Experience.
Fabulous and fearless. These are two words to describe the ethos of birdsnest, Cooma’s beloved online women’s clothing and lifestyle brand.
Innovative, ground-breaking and future-thinking are three more. Because this isn’t any clothing brand. A proudly Australian company, birdsnest was created by former e-business consultant, Jane Cay in the hope of providing an inclusive online space for Women of all shapes and sizes, no matter where they lived.
Almost a decade later, birdsnest employs more than 140 Snowy Mountains’ locals and has helped more than 85,000 women across Australia find a way to express their personal style.

Although the business is predominantly online, their ‘one-and-only’ bricks and mortar store is just an hour south of Canberra on the way to the ski fields or NSW south coast. Hugely popular among Canberran’s, the store is run by birdsnest stylists, or your ‘Wardrobe Wingbirds’ as they like to say, who will help you discover new styles, and are always on hand to assist with any wardrobe dilemma – from needing something for a special event, to new Mum’s returning to work looking to refresh their wardrobe.
Now, birdsnest is launching a new, exclusive experience for fans of the brand—The Nest Experience.
Perfect for special occasions, a girls’ trip or birthdays, The Nest Experience is a full day of fashionable fun, encompassing an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the business, a delicious lunch and a group shopping experience with a birdsnest stylist.

“We wanted to create an experience that mixed the online with the offline, giving people the opportunity to indulge in some retail therapy at the same time as getting to know the ins-and-outs of our business operation and team culture,” explains birdsnest’s spokesperson, Tahlia.
“We know people love to visit our beautiful flagship store and we were finding a growing interest in the ‘behind the scenes’ operation. It made sense for us to experiment with different types of service, and after a successful trial of ‘The Nest Experience’, we opened up four events that sold out within days.”

With a minimum of four and a maximum of six participants, The Nest Experience is an intimate event which will delight any fashionista. However, Tahlia also says it would be ideal for those with a business of their own who would love a stickybeak inside the workings of a large e-commerce operation.
This includes birdsnest’s in-house photography team, design team working to design and develop nine in-house labels, large scale warehousing operation (which is run out of an abandoned supermarket), and a dispatch team who get an average of 600 orders out the door daily, each wrapped with love and a hand-written note. Phew.
“Your tour guide will walk you through the business operations giving you an insight into the different elements of the business and overall workplace culture,” she explains. “On the tour, you will learn about the birdsnest story from the beginning to now, including the design process of our nine in-house labels.”

After the tour, relax with a birdsnest picking plate for lunch prepared by the organisation’s in-house chef as you sit and chat with the team. As a company nominated for an Australian Online Retail Industry Award for Best Customer Experience for nine years running (winning in 2013, 2015 and 2016), it’s sure to be a hoot. Sorry.
Then the fashionable fun begins.
“Your group shopping experience will include a seasonal styling presentation run by an experienced birdsnest stylist who will then act as your very own ‘wardrobe wingbird’,” says Tahlia. Will you choose an outfit for a special occasion or shop for your new favourite staple? The choice is yours.

With Cooma just over an hour’s drive from Canberra, The Nest Experience is the perfect all-inclusive day trip; or why not extend it to a long weekend mini-break to stick around and explore the beautiful Snowy Mountains region?
Guests of The Nest Experience have also said that it’s the perfect solution for those who don’t enjoy traditional shopping trips.
“I usually don’t love shopping,” writes Tina. “But it was enjoyable to not have to go from shop to shop to find a wide selection of clothes. I will be back”
Deborah says that “The balance of the tour and experience was very well done and had our group talking all the way home.” 100% of attendees said that they would recommend The Nest Experience to a friend. So, what are you waiting for? The Nest is waiting.
