Omg MASCARA! Who doesn’t use mascara? It’s the holy grail of cosmetics, the one thing you can do to instantly change your appearance from ‘alright’ to alluring! Everyone is on the quest for the perfect mascara so to help, here are my top five!

1. NARS Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara ($40)

I have used this mascara for the last three or four years, and only this mascara. It is incredible. It lengthens, and for us girls that have short straight lashes, this baby holds a curl! Holds them up exactly where you left them!

If you’re looking for a high end mascara to try, definitely give this one a go.

2. Kevyn Aucoin Mascara ($40)

Do you have problems with your mascara smudging, flaking or just generally under performing? Well the Kevyn Aucoin Mascara is here to save you!

This mascara has a unique formula that, once applied, sets to a solid…when you’re ready to remove it, a bit of water will make little tubes just slide off your lashes, meaning you will never ever smudge and there’ll no more panda eyes. I’m going to repeat that because it’s important. NO MORE PANDA EYES!

Trust me this works, it’s the real deal, and it comes in two formulas Curling and Volumising. Whichever you choose, you will fall in love with this miracle mascara.

3. Cover Girl Clump Crusher ($17.95)

I came across this product when it was first released in the USA, about two months before it was released in Australia. The online buzz about the results of this mascara was epic, it seemed that every makeup forum or blog was reviewing this new mascara that promises to lengthen and volumise without any clumping.

It sounded too good to be true, but as the ‘before & afters’ flooded the internet I became really excited to try it! So as soon as I saw it, I bought it and I haven’t looked back. For a ‘supermarket brand’ this mascara really does deliver on its promises. Just remember you need to apply more than one coat and you will have eyelashes to envy!

4. Maybelline Great Lash ($15.95)

Maybelline Great Lash has been around since the 80’s (yes, really)…so long that the original packaging has had enough time to go out of fashion and come back in again. The reason this one has been around so long is because it’s so popular with everyone! It’s one of those dependable products that you know you can always fall back on when everything else seems too hard or disappointing.

It gives you a natural lash look, but like all good staples in our lives, maybe they don’t need to give us a big bang of results. Just knowing they are there and that they will consistently deliver is enough.

5. Benefit They’re Real Mascara ($38)

Are you the kind of lady who wants your lashes to look dramatic and luscious? You need to try the Benefit They’re Real Mascara. Trust me – one coat will have you saying “oh my”; two coats, “oh my gosh!”; and three coats, well you can imagine.

This is one seriously good mascara, jet black and lots of drama – give it a go!

The Kevin Aucoin mascara sounds good because it’s a tubing mascara so as you said, no flaking, smudging or panda eyes – and the tubes simply slide off in warm water.

The ultimate tubing mascara for me is Mirenesse – I’ve been using it for years to the exclusion of all others. Then someone put me on to another tubing mascara, Australis Killer Curves. I still use the Mirenesse for high impact, but for daily use the Killer Curves gives a nice result for just $10 or so. I don’t know why you would NOT wear tubing mascara 🙂

I’m with you, Tara. Mirenesse all the way! Plus, it’s often on special on some of the discount websites so I tend to buy a few at a time, for a fraction of the original price!

My only concern with tubing mascara (I’m using Clinique Lash Power at the moment) is the removal process. I feel like I’m going to pull my lashes out, albeit gently. Any tips, Lesley?

Following Melinda’s query on eyelash extentions.

And to Sally, the best every day mascara i have come across is Mabeline Full and Soft, i love it- comes of so easy… but might not be the best for a dramatic evening look.
