GO PINK campaign for Canberra dad battling his fourth cancer diagnosis
Posted on
If you see shocks of pink hair on random Canberrans after tomorrow, think of local dad Steve Hall who has been diagnosed with cancer not once, not twice, but four times.
Steve’s wife Alison Hall and his sister Leanne Graham are pledging to dye their hair pink for The National Breast Cancer Foundation GO PINK campaign to raise funds and awareness this June, following Steve’s latest diagnosis of breast cancer.
Steve was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at 14 and went onto being diagnosed with Leukaemia at 16 whereby he ended up having the life-saving bone marrow transplant. As an adult he had a Squamous Cell Carcinoma removed from his tongue at age 33 and is currently undergoing treatment for Breast Cancer at 40.
His wife Alison says “Steve is an inspiration. He truly is a fighter and has been so positive as he takes on another battle with cancer. Our love for him and appreciation of the amazing work the National Breast Cancer Foundation does to support life changing cancer research are the main focus of why we are fundraising.”

Alison and Leanne will be going pink in style, thanks to the generosity of Creative Image Hair, Kambah – and welcome people to join the celebration.
“We will be sharing our ‘dye day’ with our friends and family live on social media, as well as welcoming people to join us at the salon on Thursday from 5pm to see the transformation and join in with some PINK themed fun, food and fundraising,” says Alison.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation GO PINK campaign brings the community together each June to make a proud pink pledge and raise funds for game-changing breast cancer research. One in 7 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime, and one in 670 men. Research into early detection and preventative treatments is vital to increasing survival rates.
According to Alison, Steve was always aware that there may be further complications and issues with his health due to his past cancer treatments, but he was shocked to be diagnosed with cancer again, particularly breast cancer, given it is so rare for men.
The couple have two sons, aged 5 and 7.
But Alison says the family is remaining positive. “He has fought other battles, and the prognosis for this diagnosis looks good as they have been able to remove the cancer, and it has not spread enough to be of concern, but he is undergoing the preventative treatment of chemo, radiation and hormones this year to prevent it from coming back.
“He is strong, positive and taking this new battle in his stride. He is inspiring, and keeps us all positive along the way.”
To support Alison and Leanne you can donate to their team online or support their Pink Party event online or in person – or make your own pledge to Wear it, Shave it or Colour it!
