Did someone say free pinball? Retro Arcade is coming to Canberra Centre this weekend

Posted on

Step aside, TikTok. This school holidays, we’re kicking it old school.

This weekend, your child’s (and maybe even your) new favourite destination will launch at Canberra Centre—and it’s completely free.

From Saturday 8 May, Retro Arcade will open at Canberra Centre, featuring an array of retro arcade games for visitors to play—completely free of charge—for the duration of the autumn school holidays.

Delighting the young and young at heart, the space—located between David Jones and Lululemon on the ground floor—will feature two pinball machines, PONG, Air Hockey and two vintage arcade consoles with more than 120 vintage style games on them each, including Asteroids, Arm Wrestling and more!

Open from 10 am – 2 pm daily and 4-7 pm on Friday nights until 23 April, Retro Arcade is a nod to Canberra Centre’s autumn winter #HELLOAGAIN campaign that features trends from the 1950s, ‘70s and ‘90s—and what better way to celebrate the past than by taking on your friend, partner or sibling in a game of PONG?

The immersive space features classic black and white tiling and neon signs, with the temptation to snap a few selfies in between rounds of pinball very high, and while there’s no doubt the arcade will be popular, there’s no need to book in to access it. Just show up and play!

Many of the games are courtesy of Kingpin (located upstairs in the Bunda Street sector of the Centre) which was awarded Canberra’s Top Entertainment Venue for 2022 (for the third year in a row).
