So much street food, so little time.

Canberra foodies rejoice: The Forage returns

Forget wine and cheese – beer and cheese could be the new perfect combination if the lineup for The Forage is anything to go by.

The popular street style food event, to be held alongside the Hustle&Scout Markets on 12 September, has collaborated with cheese importers The Cheesesmith and boutique brewery Bentspoke to feature unique brews and cheeses from around the world including France, Switzerland, and England.

“It was really exciting for us because its not the same old, same old – we’ve all tried cheese and wine,” The Forage founder Belinda Neame says.

“The Forage is about tapping into food trends and giving people something new all the time, and we just know Canberrans will love it.”

Educational ‘pairing sessions’ run by The Cheesesmith and Bentspoke will feature at the event, to be held at the Old Bus Depot Building in Kingston.

“Guests will sit down to individual slate boards of six different varieties of cheeses, a printed beer/cheese menu, condiments and a bread/cracker board,” Belinda says.

“Mike from The Cheesesmith will then talk guests through each cheese, the history, where they are from, and why each one works well with the beer match. The guys from Bentspoke will also talk through each beer type. These sessions will have the guests walking away with a very satisfied palette and a sound knowledge of good cheese and beer and how to pair them.”

Belinda says some of the flavours guests can look forward to tasting include triple cream cheese from France and ‘sprocket’ beer.

The twilight event includes up to 100 food and fashion stalls, with live music from The Lavers, Tuchasoul and The Burley Griffin, a workshop series by The Maker’s Collective and roaming contemporary dance performances.

“Not only do we have our biggest line up of food and fashion vendors but we have also got our biggest entertainment program ever,” Belinda says.

There are 26 brand new fashion designers attending the event, including: Birdsnest, Hana Designs, A Skulk of Foxes, Runaway Apparel, Solar Bare, and Fujinella. Eight of the designers who showcased at Fashfest this year will be bringing their latest collections: Sovata, Zilpah Tart, Red Corner Boxing, Solar Bare, Hana Designs, Birdsnest, Recollection and Assemblage Project.

There are also 10 new vendors coming to The Forage, including locals such Tikka Stand, 4 Bee Meats, Honey & Glow and 54 Benjamin. Old favourites include Pialligo Estate, Mr Papa, Sweet Bones Bakery, East Street Canberra and The Brathaus and more.

The Forage and Hustle&Scout will be moving to a new location in  December. Stay tuned on their websites here and here.
