Eight pram friendly restaurants for a dinner date (plus one)
Posted on
Heading out for dinner with a baby might seem a bit ambitious.
But thankfully, there are places around Canberra that make it easier for parents who don’t want to miss out on our city’s burgeoning restaurant scene. We looked at a few restaurant options; taking into account things like speedy service, room for prams and change tables, and rustled up a few different options.
Fillos Taverna and Bar, Woden
This new taverna has a restaurant atmosphere and is separate from the bistro. It’s open from 6pm so there’s enough time to eat before bedtime, and it’s noisy enough in that if the baby is crying the other diners can’t really hear. It also has delicious Greek food – trust us, you won’t leave hungry!
Service: Fast
Change table: Yes, upstairs
Jamie’s Italian, Canberra City
A favourite amongst parents, Jamie’s is very accommodating for babies and even has colouring in to keep older kids busy.
Service: Varies, depending on peak times
Change table: Yes, located inside the Canberra Centre
The Meating Room, Weston
If you’re a meat-lover you can’t go wrong with The Meating Room, and there’s plenty of space for prams.

Little Istanbul, Tuggeranong
This casual/cool Turkish restaurant at Tuggeranong has been a southside favourite for years, boasting some of the best pides in Canberra.

Turkish Pide House, Woden
Love your Turkish but want something closer to the Woden area? You’re in luck, because Turkish Pide House is also an excellent family-friendly option and has a great outdoor area to boot.

Agostini’s, Kingston
Located at the East Hotel, this relative newcomer is fast becoming a favourite among families for its food and atmosphere alike.

Bicicletta, NewActon
If you’re craving Italian, you can’t go wrong with Bicicletta and if it’s a warm night outside, there are plenty of outdoor tables in the courtyard for a more casual atmosphere.

The District, Crace
This pub/cafe is known for its hearty meals and friendly atmosphere (along with a pretty irresistible dessert menu.)
