Sometimes, trending foods can live up to their ‘health’ status! With these kinds of foods, not only will you wow your Instagram feed, you’ll wow your insides as well.

One of those trending foods, is smoothie bowls. It’s pretty much a smoothie, poured into a bowl, topped with fun whole foods in a way that makes you look like a hipster and then eaten (or slurped) with a spoon.

A smoothie bowl is a delicious breakfast option for those wanting maximum taste and nutrition. They are surprisingly quick and easy to make and you don’t need it to look super fancy unless you’re taking a photo of it. This recipe is rich in fibre (50% of your daily needs), vitamin C and a great source of calcium and protein. Don’t be alarmed at the sugars, these all come from natural sources meaning the whole bowl is packed with nutrients!

Ingredients (serves 1)

1 cup frozen mixed berries
1 tbsp. coconut cream
170g low fat greek yoghurt
2 tsp maple syrup
5-6 small strawberries, halved
¼ cup blueberries
1 tsp pumpkin seeds
1 tsp chia seeds
1 tbsp. coconut flakes
10g granola

Method

Combine the berries, coconut cream, yoghurt and maple syrup in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a bowl. It should be thick.

Top the smoothie bowl with granola, coconut flakes, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, blueberries and strawberries. Serve immediately and enjoy!
