Project Fitness raises the bar

Project Fitness are shaking things up, with brand new space and some fresh, exciting new features.

“Going to the gym isn’t about just ticking a box” explains Director and Personal Trainer Tal Evans. “It’s about developing the practical, functional skills and knowledge to apply to the everyday—whether you’re hiking up a mountain on the weekend or at your desk at work.”

With that in mind, the team have refreshed their timetable, with a range of offerings to assist all facets of fitness. In addition to their Strength and Conditioning classes (a regular at HerCanberra’s ACTIVE Day), there’s Yoga, Pilates, Strongman, Kickboxing and BarZUU—a combination of lifting and body weight resistance movements. There’s even a ladies night which is not only a great way to train in a female-only environment, but also meet like-minded women.

“Our intention was to compliment people’s current training schedules, and provide them with classes and services that will help them to excel in their training.”

It’s not just the classes that make training at Project Fitness feel like more of a pleasure than a pain, but their impressive new digs.

“Not only did we want more space, but we also wanted to provide our members with 24-hour access, which is something our previous space didn’t accommodate. It was a chance to really make the space our own” says Tal.

The space couldn’t be further from what you’d expect of a regular gym. There’s millennial pink old-school lockers, neon signs, greenery, and lighting that’s more nightclub than health club. Even their sled track is unique, with all black set against a neon-lit, matte-black wall. The overall look is cool and luxurious—certainly somewhere you’d be happy to spend your time.

That’s really where Project Fitness excel: taking something that can be traditionally quite bland, and turning into a fun, motivating experience. In larger, mainstream gyms, it can be quite difficult to cultivate a community vibe but, as a boutique gym, Project Fitness have put as much attention into developing a positive culture as they have into their slick new fitout.

One of the most noticeable things about their community of members is how incredibly fit they all are.

“We’ve created a friendly, supportive atmosphere for our clients” explains Tal. “We often run classes and competitions that involve our members working together, which results in them training together and developing relationships long-term.”

“It’s a friendly, positive place to achieve goals with fantastic support, and a strong family feel” says Project Fitness member, Elle Western.

Being a new member at a tight-knit gym can sometimes feel daunting. The Project Fitness members, however, are welcoming and down to earth, creating an atmosphere that’s simultaneously competitive and fun.

If you’re not a fan of the ‘one size fits all’ approach of many conventional gyms, you’re sure to appreciate the individualised take that Project offer their members.

“Each of our trainers bring their own expertise and outlook on training to the gym” says Tal. “We’re very selective about our staff. They have to fit with our culture and be willing to push themselves hard.”

In addition to their impressive line-up of classes, Project Fitness offer personal training with programs that are tailored to the individual needs of their clients. They’ve enlisted the help of industry experts like Physiotherapist Jimmy Pipe, Sports Dietitian Harriet Walker, and Pilates queen Gabrielle Petterwood to offer treatments and services that complement their programs.

To celebrate their new gym, Project Fitness are holding an Open Day on Saturday 28 July. From 9am to 2pm, the gym will be open to the public, with stalls including The Goods Wholefoods, Prodigy Supplements, lululemon, iBody Scan and more.
