The Finnish Embassy wants you to get crazy this weekend

It’s safe to say that the Finns have just landed the title of wildest embassy in Canberra.
As they prepare to host the Finnish Crazy Games this Saturday 13 October, the embassy is proving it’s as outrageously fun as ever.
Kicking off from 10 am, visitors of all ages can expect a range of exciting activities that are as imaginative as they are hands-on.

Hobbyhorse Racing will kick-start the day and everyone from the smallest racers to the biggest are invited to take their places at the starting gates. If you’re looking for tips to craft your own hobbyhorse, check out the D.I.Y guide on the events official website.
Crowd favourite, and arguably the craziest event of the day, traditional Wife Carrying will commence at noon. In this event your ‘wife’ can be a friend, your partner or anyone you can find who is a minimum weight of 49kgs.

Contesters will carry their partner in a race against each other for the main event. The prize? Your partner’s weight in Finnish beer. Count us in.
But what we’re most looking forward to is the event that will close out the day, the annual Air Guitar competition. The winner of last years’ competition will be in attendance, along with a mysterious international guest.

Throughout the day you can explore traditional Finnish culture, with sauna sessions available (although bookings are essential!). Don’t forget to bring along your towel, swimmers and a water bottle. However, the fun doesn’t stop there! There will also be embassy tours, Nordic walking and folk dancing, as well as berry picking and mobile throwing competitions. Yes, that’s right. Throwing your old mobile phone (which you can then safely recycle on site!).
Finnish food and beer will be on offer, and a range of Finnish businesses will be attending and showcasing their products. The ACTSmart partnered event will be promoting a minimal waste environment, and fundraising partner CanTeen will be holding a sausage sizzle. Organisers have recommended public transport, or carpooling to the event are the best options, as there will be a limited amount of parks.
Entry into the event is free.
