Dîner en Blanc is back for its fourth year in the capital.

The hotly anticipated Parisian-inspired summer gathering is known for its exclusive atmosphere, with the location shrouded in secrecy until the morning-of. If last year’s setting at the National Arboretum is anything to go by, patrons can be assured to expect something extraordinary.

With a tradition spanning over 30 years, the très chic Dîner en Blanc was brought over to Australia in 2012 by Antoine and Rachel Hessis, with gatherings taking place in major cities all over the country this summer. And now the countdown is on for Canberra’s turn on Saturday 9 February.

Inspired by the best elements of French dining culture, Dîner en Blanc offers a combination of the excitement of spontaneous gatherings with the luxury of intimate fine dining. Drinks will be flowing and the conversation even more so as the sun goes down on a balmy summer evening. Guests will be able to dine en masse under the stars until it’s time to retire for some well-earned beauty rest (that is if the food coma hasn’t set in already).

Attendees are invited to don their unique interpretations of the all-white dress code. Opting for light, breathable fabrics appropriate for the warm weather is a must, with linen and cotton being the recommended go-to. This will be a zero-waste event, so patrons are advised to opt for a leave-no-trace approach of bringing their own seating, table settings and tables.

Once at the mysterious location, guests will be greeted with Instagram opportunities abound as they tuck into their picnic dinner. Don’t want to cook? Three-course gourmet hampers and drinks packages are available for pre-order, or attendees can opt to bring their own French-inspired feast.

While no drinks purchases or BYO will be available on the night* (alcoholic or not), the compilation of French wines and champagnes you can pre-order is certainly impressive.
