Taking the cake: PANDSI Cake Off is back for 2019

Returning again in 2019, PANDSI’s annual cake competition is being held to raise funds for, and awareness of, the organisation’s tireless support of the Canberra community.

Over the past three decades, PANDSI has provided help and support for new parents suffering from anxiety and depression, while aiming to break the stigma around mental health.

PANDSI (Post and Ante Natal Depression Support and Information) provides in-person group and telephone support as well as an information/referral services to mothers, fathers and families affected by depression and/or anxiety during pregnancy and up to two years after birth.

The annual Cake Off event came as a way for the community to bond over a shared love for a good cause.

“Cake is a great way to bring people together, and the Cake Off does just that,” explains PANDSI CEO Yvonne Luxford. “It brings people together to raise awareness and funds that are needed to extend the PANDSI services.”

On Sunday 5 May in the ballroom of the Hyatt Hotel Canberra, there will be 50 cakes on display under the theme ‘World Cultures in Cake’ including a cactus from Mexico, a lantern from China and a cuckoo clock from Germany as part of the 2019 Cake Off.

The World Cultures in Cake theme comes after PANDSI statistics showed that 32% of Canberrans who were born overseas may face additional language and cultural barriers to seeking help with their mental health.

Guests at the Cake Off can see the cakes up close, chat to the PANDSI team and even bid for their chance to take home their favourite cake!
