Capital Chemist Charnwood launches delivery service

West Belconnen residents will soon have the best pharmacy access in town as Capital Chemist Charnwood launches its delivery service.

We all have times when we really need medication but just can’t get to the pharmacy to collect it—so what do you do if you have no one to help? That’s where Capital Chemist Charnwood’s new delivery service comes in.

Samantha Kourtis, owner and managing partner of Capital Chemist Charnwood, grew up in West Belconnen, and says her deep knowledge of the area means she’s in touch with what the community needs.

“Capital Chemists can feel the heartbeat of their community and act on it immediately,” Samantha says. “We live and raise our families in the same community as our patients and I think that that means that we really do know what matters and lets us be creative and really be on top of the healthcare needs of the people of Canberra.”

A local institution that has been in operation for more than three decades, over the years Capital Chemist Charnwood has extended their opening hours and worked closely with local GPs and other health providers to offer the highest-quality service possible.

The team has also been operating an on-demand delivery service for customers in need. Now, they’re about to extend the delivery service to the wider community.

“We basically specialise in complex chronic areas of our health care system, including mental health and diabetes,” explains Samantha. “More and moreover the last 12 months, we were getting people calling us from home asking if they could send a taxi or a neighbour down for their medication.”

There is a range of reasons why people in need might not be able to come to the pharmacy in person—from being sick themselves to caring for a sick child or older parent. So when the team decided it was time for a formal delivery service, they wanted to make it as accessible as possible.

Whether it’s a regular medication delivery or an over-the-phone consultation with the pharmacist, West Belconnen residents will be able to access healthcare at home 96 hours a week.

“We’re really hearing from our community that a home delivery service will have a huge impact on how people can best look after themselves,” says Samantha

“It’s going to mean that people can get timely access. It’s also going to help some people with the affordability of accessing their medication, so they don’t have to rely on public transport or taxis. We’re very excited about what opportunities that will create in our community.”

Capital Chemist Charnwood is open from 7.30 am–9 pm from Monday–Saturday and from 9 am–9 pm Sundays, including most public holidays.

The home delivery service will launch in West Belconnen on Monday 11 November, with a dedicated delivery vehicle on call during pharmacy opening hours.
