Five places to sleep under the stars in Canberra
Posted on
Is there anything more magical than cuddling up under a sparkling night sky?
Whether you’re looking for a rustic camping experience or glamping with all the trimmings, here’s where to sleep under the stars in and around Canberra.
Naked Cubby Co
If you want a camping experience without compromising on life’s little luxuries, you’ll love Naked Cubby Co at Mount Majura Vineyard.
The two adorable cubbies, Edgar and Frank, both include a king bed with luxury linen bedding, locally made furniture, a solar-powered fridge and lights, as well as a private out-house with an eco-toilet.
Enjoy a decadent breakfast in bed featuring seasonal local products before you return to real life (sigh).
Wildfest
A Wild Night Out at Tidbinbilla is the ultimate family sleepover held during school holidays. The next event is scheduled around April 2021, so keep your eyes on their Facebook page for details.
In the meantime, Wildfest offer Sanctuary Seekers Luxury Bell Tent and Stretch Tent Hire in regional NSW and the ACT. They can set up tents on private properties or campgrounds. They even offer location sourcing as a service to help you find the perfect spot.
Kowen Forest
The beautiful Kowen Forest is popular for everything from orienteering to mountain biking, horse riding, bushwalking and trail running—and it’s also excellent for camping.
The Old Kowen Homestead Recreation Area is accessed via a dirt road 10km behind locked gates, so it’s essential to book at least two weeks prior to ensure access.
You’ll need to bring your own drinking water and firewood, but there are toilets, gas barbeques and picnic tables for you to use.

Woods Reserve
Perched on the banks of Gibraltar Creek, Woods Reserve is a campground in Canberra’s south that provides unrivalled access to some pretty spectacular bushland.
Enjoy luxuries like hot showers, flushing toilets and picnic tables.
Cotter Campground
For generations, the Cotter has been the place to go for barbeques, picnics and swimming. The campground caters for every style of camper, from swags to camper trailers and more.
There’s hot showers, drinking water, flushing toilets, dishwashing facilities, and gas and electric barbeques. You don’t even need to book—just make a payment by cash to the ranger or into the honesty box.
