Just Ask Loulou: when it’s OK not to be OK
Posted on
She is the zanier (and more sweary) side of Canberra floral royalty Moxom and Whitney, but did you know that Loulou Moxom gives good advice?
We sign off this year with some sage words from our floralista columnist, who has found 2020 tough going.
How are you travelling Loulou? You had a rough patch recently and I wonder how you’ve gotten through?
So I decided to write this response incredibly honestly and month by month. I spared no detail. It was really depressing and made me feel like a sad sack of (poo emoji). All woe is me and doom and gloom.
In front of me was the chronicle of a journey detailing one of the toughest years I’ve had. In my forty nine years I’ve had my fair share of doozies so to get the slap in the face that was 2020…
…It just about finished me.
But I’m not going to go into detail. You wouldn’t believe me anyway. It’ll be in my book though*, it has to—this year shaped me like no other.

My anxiety took hold of me. Panic attacks were brand new and a freakin’ scary surprise. I had four attacks in three days. Enough was enough.
I rang Lifeline.
I confided in trusted tribe members.
I went to the doctor.
I take pills now.
Upsides:
Nothing really freaks me out like it used to. I seriously wasted loads of time sweating the little stuff.
I feel like I have more space in my head and more time for decision-making. Thought processes are easier to formulate somehow.
I appreciate more.
I sleep more at night and have hardly any night sweat sauna sessions.
Downsides:
The first few days were so utterly horrible I could barely function. My brain was three steps behind me, I couldn’t finish a sentence.
When private and solo downstairs happy time is happening it takes waaay longer to reach the magical Happy Place. Like, heaps longer. Shut up. You know EXACTLY what I mean. Don’t pretend like you don’t.
That reminds me. Even thinking about “a quick fiddle” doesn’t happen as much.
That’s about it my loves. This is how I’m doing. I get up, do the things, go to bed and repeat. I think we’re all at that place to be honest? We all just want this ridiculously horrendous year over.
I’m going to sign off by saying be kind to yourself and all around you. You never know what path someone has taken before they got to when you first encounter them.
Smile as much as you can and go out of your way to do something beautiful for someone everyday.
Put your phone down more often and look around you.
Happy New Year Dollstars. Stay safe and festively groovy. XXX
*one day, then obvs a mini series.
