Hey Alexa—play ‘Easter Road Trip’: Five roadtrips to take this long weekend

Posted on

Before we begrudgingly pull our puffer jackets out from hibernation, make the most of the cool nights but deliciously warm days with these five road trips to get you out of Canberra that aren’t Batemans Bay.

From the coast (where yes, you can still swim) to hiking in the magical Snowy Mountains and charming towns to get lost in, there are plenty of roads to explore just a stone’s throw from home.

Love music, art and the beach? Look no further than one of our favourite coastal getaways—Bermi. Just three and a half hours south of Canberra, that little bit of an extra drive instantly ups your chances of finding a beach all to yourself.

Head down at Easter to unlock the best this oasis has to offer with the Four Winds Festival. This three-day family-friendly extravaganza is the perfect excuse to load up the car and head down the mountain.

Jervis Bay

Looking for crystal clear waters, white sand and a serene bushland backdrop to wash away your worries? Head north to Jervis Bay.

Make the most of the warmer currents coming through as you explore this gorgeous little oasis. Check out our guide to where to eat, play and stay here.

Kosciusko National Park

Want to head out into the wild? Kosciuszko National Park is your one-stop shop.

Hike up a mountain, ride down the tracks and take a dip in the outdoor thermal pool at Yarrongonbilly Caves which is fed by a natural spring with the water staying a delicious 27 degrees all year round.

Crackenback

While Jindabyne and Thredbo are popular road trip destinations, the quaint haunt of Crackenback (located just between the two) is quickly becoming a favourite weekender.

‘But what will I do for a whole weekend if not skiing?’ you may ask and the truth is: plenty. Crackenback in early autumn is filled with misty rolling hills, endless food options and scenic bush walks (that aren’t yet covered by snow), not to mention the iconic lake Crackenback, which allows for warm afternoons kayaking and soaking up the surrounding views.

Hot tip: We recommend staying at Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa (emphasis on the spa—it’s transformative), all of which make it incredibly hard to leave.

Orange

If you haven’t yet experienced the magic that is Orange, this is your sign to do exactly that this long weekend.

Nestled within rolling hills, it’s here that life takes on a melodic pace. Known for its wineries, country hospitality, charming gift shops, and one-of-a-kind local art, the memories made in this little slice of paradise will last a lifetime.
