Seven ways to ‘Be a Voice for Generations’ this Reconciliation Day

Posted on

Reconciliation Day is Monday 29 May.

The theme for this year’s Reconciliation Day is ‘Be a Voice for Generations’. The theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives—where we live, work, and socialise. Struggling to find where to start? Why not spend the upcoming Reconciliation Day reconnecting through one of the activities that we’ve curated just for you?

Learning about the culture and history of Canberra through the eyes of the Ngunnawal people is a great way to strengthen your connection with Canberra and reflect on this year’s Reconciliation Day theme. No matter how small, any action taken towards reconciliation is an action worth doing. After all, who doesn’t love this beautiful land we call home?

Here are seven ways you can reflect and be a voice.

Reconciliation Day at the National Arboretum

The Nation Arboretum has a jam-packed program organised for Reconciliation Day this year. The family-friendly program is designed to promote conversations and foster a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and includes live performances, craft workshops, and the opportunity to participate in traditional cultural activities.

Monday 29 May, 10 am–3 pm | National Arboretum Canberra | More information here.

Reconciliation Concert 2023

Tickets are still available for this year’s Reconciliation Concert at the Canberra Theatre Centre, which will feature the brilliance of the multi-award winning band Yothu Yindi. Hosted by Tahalianna Soward-Māhanga, the concert will also showcase the talents of local Indigenous artists’ Alinta Barlow and Stewart Barton.

The annual concert is the perfect way to appreciate the talents of our local Indigenous artists and kick off the Reconciliation Day activities.

Sunday 30 May, 7pm | Canberra Theatre Centre | Tickets here.
