Need a bright spot on the horizon of never-ending winter? Well, mark your calendars—Light Up Lyneham is coming!

Let the gentle glow of lanterns and warmth of community spirit guide you safely through the remaining days of winter.
Light Up Lyneham, a beloved tradition for residents since 2017, will be running again this year. Held at the Lyneham Shops this Saturday 29 July between 3:30 pm and 8 pm (organised by the Lyneham Community Association and Lyneham Primary P&C) the event encourages connection, community, and creativity.
The main attraction of Light Up Lyneham is the sunset Lantern Walk. Under the colours of the dusk sky, Canberrans light their handmade lanterns (step-by-step guides provided here!) and walk to the Lyneham wetlands through a collection of illuminated and immersive art installations that are in place for this event only. Canberra’s Prosperous Mountain and Lion Dance illuminated lion will once again lead the lantern walk.
The event will celebrate vibrancy in all forms, featuring a wide range of performers to dazzle and delight the community. Visual artists like the drag king Guy Alias, Bambi Valentine (on stilts!) and Monica Talbot with her glowing hula hoops will keep the night bright and colourful. Performances from musical acts such as the Lyneham High Jazz band, Mr Tim, and the Canberra shanty club (nothing better to keep you warm than a rousing sea shanty!) will keep your ears just as entertained as your eyes. Enjoy the wonder of close-up magic with Conor Leiski and wonder how to stay upright with ACT Unicycling.
Market stalls will also offer delights for all ages, from sweet treats and a sausage sizzle to clothing and jewellery. Adults can also indulge themselves in a glass of mulled wine (an effective solution for warmth).
So build your lanterns and don your coats, because Light Up Lyneham is here to brighten up your mid-winter night with warmth and cheer!
