Five events to put spring into your step this September and October

Posted on

Feel that in the air? Spring is about to bloom in Canberra.

And while that means that you might need to stock up on antihistamines, it also means that the city is coming back to life with a bouquet (sorry) of spring-y activities. From lakeside markets to Canberra’s festival flowers, here are five events that will put a spring (sorry…again) in your step.

Little Burley Markets

Canberra’s bespoke market by the lake is back! Offering a diverse array of multicultural foods, much-loved beverages and brunchables, beautiful blooms, locally made art, fashion, photography and homewares, artisanal bread, delectable pastries, seafood, smoked charcuterie, truffles, meats, puppy treats, and much more, you’ll be able to find plenty of goodies. Make a day of it, grab a coffee and pastry, and walk around the lake for a truly Canberra-centric spring experience.

Every Saturday, 8 am – 1 pm from 2 September | Queen Elizabeth Terrace, Parkes | thelittleburleymarket.com.au

Capital Paddle Boats

Embrace the warmer weather and hit Lake Burley Griffin in style—Capital Paddle is reopening this September. Join in with other colourful paddle boats, soak up the sun, do a lap or two of the Lake, and enjoy watching the world pass you by. The best part? It’s a great activity for families because it’s kid and pet-friendly!

From Saturday 2 September | Regatta Point, Parkes | capitalpaddle.com.au

Floriade

The theme? Floral Wonderland. Us? Keen. Canberra’s annual festival of spring is back for another year. It takes place from Saturday 16 September to Sunday 15 October in Commonwealth Park, and we’re already planning our outfits. With plenty of spring-y activities planned throughout the month (from circus performances and cabaret to everyone’s favourite pooch bonanza, Dogs’ Day Out), there’s something to keep the whole family entertained. Race you to the Ferris Wheel?

Saturday 16 September to Sunday 15 October from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm daily | Commonwealth Park | floriadeaustralia.com

NightFest

When the sun goes down, explore Floriade’s dark side. Returning with plenty of illuminations and entertainment from Thursday 28 September until Sunday 1 October (taking place from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm each night), this year NightFest will see a program packed full of colour, entertainment, and food. This flower-themed nighttime event is sure to be a seasonal highlight.

Canberra is finally defrosting and to celebrate, The Forage is back with a food event dedicated to the tastes of spring. From some of Canberra’s finest street food (thanks to local food trucks, restaurants, and bars), expect it to be packed up with fun—think giant egg and spoon races, a best-dressed competition for dogs, sangria, ice-cream and so much more.

Saturday 14 October 2 pm – 8 pm | Federation Mall, Capital Hill, Canberra City | theforage.com.au
