Botswana Butchery to open in Canberra and, no, it’s not dishing up African cuisine

Update: Botswana Butchery has closed.
Despite the name, Botswana Butchery – due to open in Canberra Centre early next year – isn’t dishing up African cuisine.
Rather, it promises “sumptuous meat, game and seafood dishes” from Australian and New Zealand produce in a relaxed dining setting.
The restaurant will seat 180 guests over two levels, with multiple dining areas and a central L-shaped marble bar.

The menu, created by Culinary Director Angel Fernandez, spans several pages – from a Raw, Cured & Smoked section (oysters, crudo, ceviche and caviar and artisanal Charcuterie) to Mains or From The Ocean (seasonal dishes including duck, pork chop and whole lobster).

The signature section of the menu – The Butcher’s Block – is all about meat. The Roaring Forties Slow Roasted Whole Lamb Shoulder is said to be so tender it is simply served with a spoon and fork. We’re sold.
This is the fifth Botswana Butchery restaurant, joining two in New Zealand and one in each Sydney and Melbourne.
Botswana Butchery Canberra is slated to open in Canberra Centre on Bunda Street in early 2024.
