Capturing family, vulnerability, and motherhood
Posted on
Perinatal Wellbeing Centre is looking for photos that illustrate the importance of support, family, vulnerability and appreciating the small but significant moments during the perinatal period.
Perinatal Portraits is a digital photography exhibition now open to residents in the ACT and surrounding regions, encouraging submissions that capture the joy and importance of family and the vulnerability the transition to motherhood mother brings.
The exhibition offers a variety of categories including a special category for professional photographers. Entries will be displayed at a photography exhibition on the grounds of the Australian National University at the Shine Dome on November 4, 2023.
Perinatal Wellbeing Centre CEO, Dr Yvonne Luxford said the competition will help raise much-needed funds to deliver vital services to families who need Perinatal Wellbeing Centre’s advice and support.
“This is an opportunity to share the moments of becoming a new mother or family you value the most.”
“Maybe it was family that supported you through your transition, and you want to share a happy snap, or perhaps it is a photo that shows your more vulnerable side because you want others to know they are not alone.”
Depression and/or anxiety occurs in 1 in 5 expectant and new mothers and 1 in 10 fathers/partners. The perinatal period is a critical time for women that requires adjustments for mothers and their partners.
“This is why it is important we share the good times but also the vulnerability motherhood brings.”
“Whatever the photo may be (and there is also a category for photos with nothing to do with family and parenthood), this is a chance for all Canberrans to showcase their creative and inspiring photography skills and help raise much-needed funds for the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre.”
“Forget about socials –your photos will be hung in a professional exhibition to help parents who need a hand at the same time.”
“We need Canberrans to get cracking. Take some photos, or flick through their phone to find their greatest images.”
