The world of cocktails is getting a shake-up with Canberra’s (and Australia’s) first wearable cocktail

The future of cocktails is here – and it’s wearable.
Gone are the days of sticky dancefloors and long lines at bars, one local business is shaking up the world of cocktails with the launch of Australia’s first wearable cocktail – and luckily Canberran’s are no strangers to lanyards.
Founded by entrepreneur Aaron Taylor (whom you might recongise as the brains behind Floral Image Canberra and Aussie Floats) and officially launching this year, MXTology is serving up world-class instant cocktails that are stored and served in a sustainable pouch; designed to be enjoyed anywhere, anytime.
Here to help you party hands-free and transform dancefloors with fresh drink options that you don’t have to line up at the bar for (or spill on yourself when you boogie a little too hard), the idea and ethos of MXTology is simple: a convenient, fresh, and sustainable drink that you can wear around your neck and will make you feel good with every sip.
“It’s an instant ready-to-drink cocktail using the same top-shelf ingredients any high-end bar would use and in the same measurements,” explains Aaron.
“All you need to do is open it up, let a bit of air in there then close and shake. You can either drink straight from the pouch or pour it into a glass for that perfect pour every single time. Add a garnish if you want to be fancy or just enjoy the freshness of a world-class cocktail anywhere, anytime!”

Currently serving up some classic cocktails – think: Mai Tai, Elderflower Gin Gimlet, Espresso Martini, Tommy’s Margarita, and a Cosmo – and with plans to explore both the non-alcoholic space (because dancing hands-free is everyone’s right), not only is the offering delicious, but it’s also incredibly sustainable.
Claiming the title as “Australia’s most sustainable ready-to-drink cocktail’, each drink from MXTology is served in a fully recyclable pouch that keeps each drink as crisp as it would be from the bar, revolutionising freshness, and convenience for cocktail drinkers.
“Using pouches is not only more sustainable than glass and aluminium but also allows us to lock in freshness by vacuum sealing and eliminating all oxygen, which means our cocktails are fresher than most bars can produce,” explains Aaron.
“The only thing that goes off in a cocktail is the citrus, everything else is a preservative. At best a bar would squeeze their citrus at the start of a shift so it’s had a few hours to oxidise, at worst it could have been made yesterday. We eliminate this by squeezing our juice fresh then straight away inserting it into the pouch, which is then vacuum sealed instantly, locking in the freshness of the citrus.”
“Currently our pouches are 63 percent less climate change impactful than glass and have a 69 percent lower impact than cans. Add to this the huge difference in shipping and we’re miles in front in terms of carbon emissions to ship our packaging. We recently transported 90,000 empty pouches in a trailer behind our car whereas this would have required nine semi-trailers if we were using cans or bottles. It’s really a mindboggling difference.”
But MXTology isn’t stopping there.
Only at the beginning of its journey, the eventual goal is to create a fully biodegradable pouch that has a seed included inside it – so when you finish your drink you can put it in the ground and a tree will grow.
Wanting to educate people on the importance of sustainability in pre-mixed drinks (and how you can still enjoy a great cocktail from a pouch), Aaron says the ultimate aim for MXTology is to put Australia on the global map for cocktails.
“We’ve done before with wine and now gin, we want to be known as the company and country that revolutionised dancefloors and festivals around the world with wearable cocktails. It’s ambitious but we’re having a red hot crack!”
“I want to see MXTology at all the major music festivals and venues around the world. From Coachella to Glastonbury, The Super Bowl to The World Cup, giving people a world-class cocktail experience without having to miss any of the action wherever they are.”
It sounds like your Cosmo might soon be joining your coat as one of your most convenient and versatile fashion accessories in Canberra – and it’s an absolute game changer.
