Co_Lab 24: Dance with the unknown this Australian Dance Week

This April, Canberrans have the rare opportunity to see five internationally-renowned local artists come together to present three evenings of genre-defying live performance at Canberra Theatre Centre’s Courtyard Studio as Canberra’s own award-winning dance company Australian Dance Party presents Co_Lab:24.
A Canberra-based dance company creating responsive dance experiences in ordinary and extraordinary locations, Australian Dance Party invites audiences to think, connect and awaken and their latest work is no exception.
Co_Lab:24 is a movement, sound and visual feast presented by ADP Directors Alison Plevey and Sara Black alongside guest artists Melanie Lane (dance), Alex Voorhoeve (cello), Sia Ahmad (sound/voice) and Nicci Haynes (visuals).

Inviting you to attune your senses moment to moment and experience a unique experimental immersive event, witness the interplay of the body, sound, and light, with an improvised live evening of entertainment unique to each performance. No show will ever be the same.
“Co_Lab:24 is a special performance project for us, one that ignites the collaboration between an exceptional group of artists across art forms, where magic can happen, or an experience can unfold that the artists and audiences never would expect. The presence of the moment comes to the surface,” explains Party Leader and Co_lab Performer, Alison Plevey.

A multi-artform improvisation practice that ADP has been undertaking since 2017, Alison explains that Co_Lab has been a wildly successful way for ADP artists to push the boundaries of their practice and find inspiration outside of dance.
“It forges experimental languages between dance, sound, visual art and voice, working with artistic impulse and instantaneous composition to develop collaborative relationships and crack new creative methods outside of our body-centred work.”
